... and if we just ... Kermit the Frog Edition Helius AC

Well it was January 2008 when my Helius FR first rolled out of the house for the 1st time and now its time for a new toy to join the family
The frame has arrived and the custom painted forks are almost completed so hope to have it built and ready to ride over the next week or two, Still have some parts to get as the frame arrived some what faster than I ever thought !
I should have some photo's very soon but any one passing by Head for the Hills in Dorking will be able to see the frame in the window. I will wait for the forks to be fitted as it will finish off the frame and the over all look will be clear...
Black King headset and Black King bottom bracket already fitted...

    Very nice and very coordinated.

Are the forks powder coated or painted in 2 pack? And did you do it yourself?

So what components are you using or are you just going to keep us all in suspense for the time being?

I think they where done in water based but not 100% sure, Will find out. Full fork strip down by me and my bodyshop painted them and Roger at Head for the Hills rebuilt them as he has all the fluids to hand.
Full spec will be slowly come out over the next few days....

It's looking good so far, Rear shock will be Fox RP23, FR will be for those bigger days out ;-)

5cotty - what headset did you put in the AC?

I only ask as i am buidling one up myself shortly and Nicolai advise on the deep insert although everyone seems to think an ordinary headset will be fine.

Whats the actual chance of anything happening to the headtube with a standard headset?

I have gone for the standard Chris King on this build and had built my 2008 model FR with the same headset before all the deep cup head set stuff came about. I'm not a heavy rider at only 12.5 stone and have not had any dramas but do do any major jumps or drops...

Ditto - have been running a standard CK on my FR for 3 years now - no issues.

Scotty we both know you're more than 12.5 stone. Stop pretending

Just been into HFTH and have to say, you've done a nice job on it. The colour match is perfect and I particularly like the way you've also painted the fork crowns that nice glossy black.

Hey Scotty, that looks fantastic - we need an initial ride report by tonight! I have always loved the Kawagrun but never seen one with colour coordinated forks - is that the first time you have undertaken a fork project?

1st ride was amazing but rather cold...
It rocks and is so easy to pop jumps and drops.
Forks are my second project as the FR had White forks that left Fox in Poo Brown !

Fair play in choosing XTR for the new build....despite working in the 'industry' i still can't justify it. There'd be tears when i smash a rear mech!

Although the new trail brakes are looking very good indeed!

The new XTR had to be done as I have always been a Shimano fan and the last XTR kit I bought is still going strong after lots of trail fun..
It's been many years since I smashed a rear mech so fingers crossed.
I went none trail on the brakes as I have been using XTR brakes on my FR since building it late 2007 and other than worn out rotors in the Alps causing slowing down problems the metal pads have been great. I will see how I get on as its only a pad change to turn the Race into Trail setup...
They are still beading in after about 12 miles very cold but very dry ride on Sunday. Its great when all the mud is rock solid :-)

If I were you Scotty, I would be in a big warm jacket, some Gore Tex boots and trudging down to the shop - regardless of distance or climatic conditions - in fact it would take and act of god for me not to make the trip!

There was also some sort of fire in the High Street and half the town had been evacuated so would have been so much drama. I will be off to get it in the next hour and give it a little clean after last weeks ride and then some final finished photo's for all to look at.. Shame that the snow has now gone as it would have made a great back drop.

Thanks TLR, I think the forks rock as do many others but if we where all the same life would be boring, And many more would be suffering from pedal strike !
Had a lay back post on my FR and the demo AC I rode also had lay back so bought a lay back post.

Thanks ianpinder, I agree 100% on the fork decals but due to bad snow etc in Surrey I still need to pick up my custom fork stickers.

Weight would go sub 27lbs with lighter tyres as the Bontragers fitted are not mega light but its ended up at that weight without any messing with the build. Will be weighing on better scales in the week as I might be out a little.

Stunning bike. Can see why you're riding set back post. I'm really stretching the limit of what my saddle rails can handle.

    The XTR brakes look cool.

That looks great although i agree with TLR....forks look awful.

Also, please sort out that rear brake hose! Over long hoses are unacceptable especially when they rub on forks crowns.

pull the blue anno off the fork knobs and maybe add some decals, get rid of the bar end caps, "ODI" is messin with the clean look. otherwise, looks HAWT!

Oh and that bike deserves a super-clean saddle. SLR or Devo Ti/Carbon.

Err I fully agree regarding the forks in both the blue and stickers, Looks like custom stickers should be ready to collect on Monday. And I'm due to see A1 Anodizing on Monday regarding some work stuff but was also going to ask about adjusters and cap.
Will change ODI caps at some point but the bike arrived some 4-6 weeks faster than I thought so things where done rather quicker than 1st planed.
Saddle wise I know what is fitted suits my bum and after hours on it things are still sweet.

    Thanks for the kind words...

Ok, here is an irrelevant question: How is the fork staying in the frame in the first page of shots where the bike is on the stand in "Head for the Hills"?

Those forks look to be kashmina coated. Sometimes the coating does not always look as gold. There is a marked difference between the colour of the coating on my 36 floats compared to the 32 831s even though they are both 2011 kashmina coated

I'm sure mine are lighter in colour to my mates 5 spot that is fitted with the same fork. They are a little older than mine though.
A friend scanned a standard Fox decal that I bought from Mojo and work some magic to render then up nice and clean and then cut them from satin black vinyl. Slight mods made to allow them to be cut OK.

Thanks for the kind word and I'm almost happy with the final build now just need to get out and ride more...

Definitely one of the sickest and most color coordinated bikes on here. Job well done.
