    Ion 18 Build

I'm slated for delivery of my Ion 18 by early-mid May. In the meantime, I've been collecting parts for the build. I went with the same color way as shown on the Nicolai website, raw finish with orange extra love (I'm a Philadelphia Flyers fan).

Anyway, here's the build, let me know your thoughts:

Nicolai Ion 18 Frameset (orange ano super love)
    Chris King Headset 1.8 – 1.5 (49mm) ano orange
    Truvativ Hammerschmidt AM Crankset (170mm)
Fox 36 Talas 180 FIT RC2 Fork (tapered steerer)
    Fox DHX RC4 8.75 x 2.75 Rear Shock
    350lb Titanium Spring
    Shimano XT Brake set
SRAM XO 9-Speed Rear Derailleur (carbon cage / orange ano)
    SRAM XO Cassette
    SRAM XO shifters
2012 Easton Havoc UST Wheelset (orange hub)
    Easton Havoc Carbon DH Handlebar
Easton Havoc 65mm Stem (orange ano)
    Twenty-six Platform Pedals (orange ano)

Is that a non standard tapered head tube I see? Any reason for going that way?

I read that the tapered headtube was stronger and lighter…I guess we'll see. The build got held up last night as the Chris King head set was the wrong upper cup size. Grrrrr!

More progress! It should be 100% complete by Thursday evening.

She's DONE! Taking her to the shop tonight to put her on the scale (after a ride of course). I'm guessing 36 lbs.

I'm sure it will. What color(s) did you order and when are you slated to receive it?

Excellent! 36lbs with HS, not bad? Let us have a ride report.

Abbreviated ride report while I wait for the shuttle...

    1. Silent
    2. Extremely well balanced
    3. Stiff
    4. Suspension feels very neutral. Coming from years on a VPP system I don't feel as squishy.

All in all very positive. Miss riding Nicolai frames!

Colour is the same similar to TLR's frame, it is complete and hopefully shipped late this week. Am still waiting on some parts so might take some time to build.
