AM order placed ! check out my colours .

The order is placed , now just the waiting game. It will take me that time to work out the spec.... the colour scheme was hard too but it was a toss up of some similar colours for the front triangle I went through every combo i liked for 3 days, though some of you might not think so THE FINAL DECISION WAS ......

    FRONT TRIANGLE - lichtgruen

    REAR TRIANGLE - bright white

Both standard colours of the Nicolai colour sheet.

This will also be "EXTRA LOVED" with red ano and red decals.

It will be kinda similar to the one used on the nicolai website, but slightly "BRIGHTER"

The rest of the bike will be built up in various red and white parts

Really looking forward to getting it ...... BUT i know for definate a few of yous here will see it before me

I done quite a bit of comparing other peoples colour on the bikes to the nicolai colour chart to work out the difference in shades from "on paper" to "on bike"

The aus importers bike above is Psycho turquoise

I reckon the colour i picked is gonna GLOW !

Nice frame, would be nice with a custom Wotan and some louises with red alloy spiders. But no ICSG BB!!! What if you want a HAmmerschmidt. Can you call and ask if you can get a frame with one before they build it?

Hey Hufi , my german is not so good

Its not even 2 weeks since my order and im wishing it quicker already.

Probably due to a few parts arriving already and no frame to put them on .

I used to build old school BMX and i ALWAYS started with the frame and forks

How about these ozzy? Way way cheaper than a CK and way lighter too but only a 15mm insertion, is this enough?

Mick believe it or not , they specify 22mm insert , there is a few , i reckon i'll just go normal CK red set rather than a steel deep set .... still undecided and 8 weeks approx from recieving the frame... bloody hell mate ...you didnt tell me how hard it was !

    no frame

Shocks are at the shop waiting to be picked up.

Wheels and tyres coming from CR any day now.

Going to try a XT rapid rise rear D this time and XT front, should be here any day too.

waiting for CR to get more hope brakes in and still tossing up over raceface AM and XT cranks. (today 30/01 was the day they were to get more hope gear in too )

I see you got some more inspiration from a recent Melrose visit

The Raceface is very nice, but I have seen a few hassles with their machining of late. Leading to tight fits and no fits around the spline area, the XT's are so simple and seem pretty much fool-proof IMO, plus they are cheaper. The only thing is the Race face BBs seem to have better bearings, actually almost every company seems to have better bearings in their BBs. But they are easily replaced.

Went on a night ride on some sweet trails in Melrose on Monday, I am still buzzing now.

when i read the post after i wrote it , i thought id cop it from a UK'er

Yes, it all sounds good, but we just had the warmest day in 70 years here on wednesday ... nearly 46deg , thats 115 farenheit .

TLR when it hits 40deg , its like pointing a hairdryer in your face and going for a bike ride... it just doesnt work

Yep, i understand your point too mate, i lived there for 29 years and my family are letting me know how miserable it is there at the moment .... so i play along and whinge about the heat here

Yeah like i say pass the word around AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE as someone somewhere is bound to see it at some point and with the gold links it'll stand out.

I know how you must feel i'd be gutted if my pride and joy was stolen.

    Things are happening

I got a sneek peek of mine , its painted and shouldn't be too far off now , looks like 8 weeks is the waiting time for an AM

The reason i have the pic is Nicolai (Germany) sent it to Nicolai (UK) then to dipper questioning the colour/shade

I realise with the colours of bikes on here its not everyones pick , but its the way i wanted it

    Its certainly different

I dont think i can get the exact colour i wanted, kawasaki green with glitter - Nicolai UK said the gold glitter would change the actual green colour (Adding an orange tinge) so i dont want to end up with a dodgy colour so i guess it'll just have to be gloss kawagrun unless they can work something out....

What colour rear is that getting? as did you say you had red wheels?!?!?!

    Arrived today !

I have 99% of the parts , but changed my mind on the brakes, headset and tyres.

I will give you the rundown on the parts but will post it in the AM build topic when its done. Thanks to all the guys who pointed me in the right direction , and Massive thanks to the man who sorted me out (he knows who he is and ive already told him 100 times )

    2009 Fox Float 36's
    2009 RP23
XT shifters , front der & rear rapid rise der
Hope Tech M4 brakes (was XT)
    Easton monkeylite DH bars
    Thompson X4 50mm stem
    KS i900 5"
SLX Double cranks (will change bashie for a red one if i can get a match)
    DT E2200 wheels
    DX M647 pedals
    WTB shadowV seat
Acros AH07 22mm deep cup headset (was Token but red was wrong)
    Tyres weirwolfs/smallblock8's/nevegals depending on weather
    ODI ruffians grips white
    XT cassette
    991 chain
    Hope seatclamp red
    Hope hedset spacers red

Rider 210lbs (95kg) with loaded camelback

I have done a rough estimate of 33.5lb so if its below that its a bonus, the wheels are heavy and that seatpost weighs 520g (1.14lbs). But i need the stronger wheels for the rocky trails here and adjustable seatposts are an essential

The hardest part is matching the reds , hope stuff matches really well . The red band on the i900 seatpost does not , cant really do much about it .

Yep , im happy with the result

I have already done the check on my rear shock, let all the air out and pushed it down full stroke = 57mm , and 200mm eye2eye .

All i need now is the mounting hardware to fit the shock

hey - ozzy - with a 57mm stroke RP23 in the top hole, you get 178.7mm of rear wheel travel

Truthfully i have never seen a nicolai YET that was hideous , some are different , and i believe that anyone building and buying a bike that costs them $9000+ (au) has put a bit of thought into it, it all about their vision of the finished bike.

BTW i hope the first one i see with tankgirl camo belongs to a girl .... or we might be doing the thinking

Finished bike , hoses need shortened , but first ride is on for tomorrow morning . We got a bit of rain here today , so it will be interesting.
Also the frame came with a www.gravitysports.co.uk sticker on it , is this normal
Blatent advertising .... must have been happy with the service

Will also post a pic and spec in the AM BUILD THREAD.

Thanks derek , i had my first crash today , a spectactular washout on an easy corner ... have canned the nobblys back to SMALL BLOCK 8's , its still too dry here to go aggressive tyres . Bike is ok BTW , rider has a few friction burns and gravel rash
