The 3rd & last Nicolai Child - FMXTB DJ Bike

I arrived back to New Zealand from Spain on Friday morning early. I had with me my 3rd Nicolai child, and the last for some time... Sheesh am a whore at the moment..

As I mentioned previously, the Blk Mrk Mob of which I love, was slightly too small for me I felt...

So I gave it to a good home and buddy whom has helped me out big time.

I decided to go with a Nicolai FMXTB DJ bike....

Long story short, finally have it back here in NZ with me.

Started building her up yesterday, great relaxation building ones own bike from scratch... I amslo think I am enjoying being back in NZ and having a garage and workbench, rather than wrenching in the spare room of my apartment.

The build and quality, attention to detial is typical Nicolai... The frame is straight as an arrow, putting on the rear brake and lining things up was a breeze etc...

The hard core DJ peeps will hate me, but I am going to run a front brake for a little while, feel this will help improve my trials riding type skills, of which I can improve a lot, same in life really.... I digress...

Have everything except for a chain and sprocket, of which is in the air as we speak, thank you Err, you rock as normal....

Some pictures of the frame and build thus far....

    To be continued....

I happen to agree with Cris on this one. It's been raining off and on for two weeks here in UK. It's all flooded around my area at the moment. Perhaps I should take an extended holiday in NZ, now there is a plan!

The bike is looking good Whafe, keep the photos coming and enjoy that weather.

Thank you, much appreciated..... Called a few stores today.... Hopefully will have one in the next day or so...

Is your FR fully sorted? If so, post up some complete pictures bro... I will add mine to the build spec database... It is finally sorted, cut the steerer tube, so it is now all good...

    The beast is finally finished....

Have yet to tighten the chain, and need to lengthen the brake line, I run my brakes on the correct side..

It weighed in at 31 pounds on the button....

Will have a blast on it on Sunday in the Dirt Jumps....

And dude, the color combo is sweeet. Really diggin' the black/grey and then the mint fork for contrast. That may well be the very best combo that I've ever seen with the mint fork.

Whafe, you're rollin the hotness... That bike is just ill.

So, it looks like you dumped the MOB with the 4x fork, but kept some of the other parts? Build spec please... Also, with all those fine Helius riding pics, I expect some shots from the DJ's or skate park.

The brakes are Marta's, am a Magura whore. Magura on all my bikes, makes it easy...

Err and I had plenty of discussion over the fork choice, was for sure going to stay with the 4X, but remember I bought the Mob complete second hand, well the dude that had it cut the steerer to short, so we could not use it on the FMXTB... So my trusty mate Err and I decided on the RS Argyle....

Will get a play on it in the morning... Will have to learn to jump again....LOL... Am still learning on the DJ type stuff, can admit it, am a grom...

Had the first ride on her today. Up front, I really like the way this bike rides, I am no DJ pro by any stretch of the imagination, but the jumps I can do, I love how this bike flies and how balanced it is.

The Mob was great, but this is different, primarily the fact that this bike fits me better, with the slightly longer TT..

I had a bad stack though, went over a gap jump headinjg back to the car formt he DJ jumps, front rared up and I landed on my back from quite a height, feel pretty sore to be honest, knocked the wind out of my sails. Hard to get comfortabel etc, anyway, nothing that some time will not fix....

I did almost the same thing on my MOB the first day I had it... Rear end's so short on these bikes that sometimes the back wheel scoots out from under you before you can even think about it!

    Hi Wilhelm

The colour is XTR Grey. I have not had any luck searching through the Pantone Colour sites to get the actual number.

Am certain that Nicolai would give it to you. I will whip an email off to Nicolai

    Hi Whafe,

THX. According to a small colour table in the NICOLAI Catalogue 2003, p.16, "XTR grau" ("Anthrazitgrau") resp. "XTR grey" ("Anthracite grey") matches to "RAL 7016" (best matches: Pantone 433 ; CMYK/CMJN 78 64 56 49 ; RGB hex 363d43).

Papperlapapp. Most urgently Whafe needs a real 36er for now, I guess. A bike for genuine adults! Indeed, it would be the first NICOLAI 36er bike ever. No kidding!
