NorCal High School Racing Championships at Boggs Saturday and Sunday

The BTCEB got a chance to ride with some of the Albany High Cougars Mountain Bike Team at their Chabot Gala ride. If their riding is any indication the High School Teams they sponsor at Albany, Berkeley, and Contra Costa Composite are primed for their Championship Race at Boggs this Sunday. This year marks an historic occasion as this race will be the first to host racers between two very well developed Leagues, the NorCal and the newly formed SoCal League, in the history of the sport. The California State Championships; has a nice ring to it, doncha think?

I am looking forward to this weekend. We have been planning the logistics and gathering things into piles and my wife has been enthusiastic in her support. The Cougars will be there in full force, all 12, pre-riding Saturday, camping, and ready to race Sunday. I'm sure all the other 32 teams are feeling the same excitement and anticipation.

In a nod to the talent pool that is entering the sport through the
high school leagues, USA Cycling, the sports national governing
body, has determined that the state championships will count as a
qualifying race for its national championships.

While racing is a significant part of the weekend, there are several
other important components in the success of the event. One of these
is the socializing that is a hallmark of the high school racing
series. The state championships takes the NorCal atmosphere to a
whole new level. Everyone camps, and the party begins the night
before the race. Im really looking forward to that part of it as
well. A lot of families go there and its a really great atmosphere.

We will be there with about 1200 of our closest friends. Stop by for a coffee at the big red tent.

We are very lucky to have this.

    Wow

Lots of sports for high school athletes to choose from these days -- I'm envious. I had to run track and cross country. Of course, mountain biking wasn't invented then. Good luck athletes!

A request: Don't spray paint the rocks and stumps.
Edit: If you paint them, unpaint them.

    "an" historic...hmmm. English teacher?
