High school mtb coach wins Bay Area Jefferson Award

I'm only reposting the message that showed up in my inbox. Berkeley Mike and the rest of the crew can be proud. Congrats!

    LEAGUE DIRECTOR GETS JEFFERSON AWARD

League Director Matt Fritzinger has received the Jefferson award for his work building the NorCal High School Mountain Bike League. The Jefferson Award was started in 1972, by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard to establish a Nobel Prize for public and community service. On the local level, Jefferson Awards recipients are ordinary people who do extraordinary things without expectation of recognition or reward.

ANDY HAMPSTEN HOSTS BENEFIT DINNER/RSVP BY TUESDAY

Legendary American cyclist Andy Hampsten will host the 2005 benefit dinner for the Nor Cal High Schools Mountain Bike League, presented by Clif Bar, to be held November 12th, at 7 p.m. on Treasure Island, San Francisco Bay.

Hampsten, who in 1988 became the first and only American rider to win the Giro d'Italia, has recently become aware of the League, and immediately offered it his support. The dinner is being held in a magnificent 1939 World Expo building and includes hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction, desserts and dancing with DJ Babanabu.

Several benefactors have given generous support to the event, donating items such as world champion Alison Dunlap's 2005 Team Luna Chix mountain bike, a Trek road bicycle, Santa Cruz Superlite full-suspension frame, Kelly DeLuxe frame, Bianchi SASS single speed frame, and Z disc OCR Pro and Z Road WCS wheelsets by Ritchey. These items, along with many other highly collectible cycling memorabilia, fine art, dining, and vacations will be sold in a silent auction throughout the night.

All event details (including the guest list) are available at the link below - please in addition to mailing in your RSVP, e-mail fritz@norcalmtb.org by Tuesday.
