High School Mountain Biking - needs your help

There have been rumors, speculation, hoping and wishing to bring mountain biking to our high schools. Well, the group behind Washington High School Cycling League is ready to officially launch the effort.

    500 Facebook Fans by Friday

Washington League founding committee is working with the the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) to form the Washington High School Cycling League and continue the legacy of building the best interscholastic cycling programs in the USA. With your help, the Washington League could have its first full season of programs and racing in 2011!

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

We want to show NICA that our state really wants to bring cycling to our high schools. The most visible way for them to see that there is support behind this movement is to join our Facebook page. We want 500 Facebook fans by Friday!

Please take action by becoming a fan today.

What else can you do to help? You can express your interest in this league by telling us so. Visit the website @ www.washingtonmtb.org and look for the box in the upper right hand corner.

Lisa, I've forwarded this to our local high school XC (running) coach who also mountain bikes and will follow up. He thinks it would be a good option for training for the high school XC kids. (The Tahoma Relays are this weekend and this would also be a great place to pitch the High school racing on bikes as a lot of the long distance runners also ride.)

Going there and talking directly with the XC coaches when they have a minute could also go a long way.

Is this strickly XC or are their DH options? I'd be interested in becoming a DH coach/mentor if the program has a gravity side.

Baby steps. Right now the focus on is cross country but there are lot of downhill people involved. Maybe DH in future.
