There actually is a NYS park there. When the park was created mountain bikes were supposed to be included but I don't think any singletrack is open to bikes. I'm pretty sure some of the old woods roads are open to bikes, don't know how much. I've only done a couple short hikes there and have seen signs prohibiting bikes on certain trails posted by a cross country ski association. If you go, there is a visitor center off of Long Meadow Rd,probably a good place to start out from. They also have some trails mapped and can point you in the right direction.
Also the NY NJ Trail Conference has trail maps of the area. Good luck!

There is not much specific to mountain biking in Sterling Forest. There is a loop that was identified and marked for mountain biking. It is at the end of Ironwood Rd which is off of Long Meadow Rd in Tuxedo. I went up there once and decided to venture off the loop and see what else I could ride. I managed to make an afternoon of it using my NY/NJ hiking trail map. But, there were some tough sections. You'll notice I said I went there once...it really didn't excite me. There are also some trails that may technically be in Sterling Forest that connect between Ringwood and Jungle Habitat. This dude Tom Hennigan seems to have explored and mapped all kinds of stuff on the south end of Sterling. Since I'm a newbie to this blog site, I can't provide the url yet, but just type "Ringwood Jungle Habitat connector" into Google and you'll find him.

    Here ya go:

Jungle Habitat Ringwood Trail Connector Proposal

I too am interested in this. I tried to go from Ringwood, but prolly made it half way, not sure as I didn't keep mileage that day. I think it might be easier from JH to Ringwood.

I'm pretty sure there is still NO mtb on any singletrack, although I've done it once, so it's pretty much on dirt roads only which sux. It might be a nice scenic ride on a road bike though.

Hey Jim, Black Bear season starts on Monday. Best to steer clear of the woods for at least a week.

In NY State all trails are considered open to mountain biking unless signed otherwise.

Check out the maps from the NY/NJ TC and go explore the single track trails.

If there were no acts of non-violent civil disobedience we would not be as advanced as we are today.

The hike supremacists have kept us oppressed for too long.

Be kind to all you meet on the trails...
