    Coming to the Catskills

I'm coming down to the Catskills from VT next weekend. I'm camping near Slide Mountain. Any good cross country trails around there?
Too many trails, so little time!

Plattekill! Not exactly xc, but they do have some xc trails.

Thanks Eric. Are these XC trails free or part of the pay-to-play Plattekill DH trails?

I read somewhere about some state-managed mountain bike trails, but you never know if those are real singletrack or just some kind of gravel and dirt pathways.

No problem, but unfortunately these are part of the DH trails. There are a few spots further north in Oneonta, but that's quite a schlep from where you'll be. Looked around some and found this:

And maybe these folks can point you in the right direction:

There's a race @ Belleayre Mountain next Sunday (8/11) as part of the NYS race series, you may squeeze a ride there Saturday or after the race on Sunday.

I just looked up slide mountain because I didn't know where it was exactly. Your not that far from the Kingston area which has quite a bit of good trails. Depends on how much you want to drive but within an hour you also have Lippman Park which has very good trails. Look up the Renegades Mountain Bike Club (wawarsing, ny) for more information.

I would also contact Overlook Mountain bike (shop) in Woodstock, NY. They help put on the NYS series and can point you in the right direction for trails. I've ridden a place called Jockey Hill which is in the woodstock area and there is some very good riding in there. There should be more than enough trails right near you to get a couple very good rides in.

Stop by Oneonta. Right at the junction of State Routes 7, 23, and 28 and right on I-88 as well. We've got 40 miles of trails, a good riding community, good food, beer, and (if I may say so) a decent bike shop. Shoot me a PM, call me at 6 zero 7, 206-311seven on my cell or at Otsego Bicycles at 607-432-1731.

I'd be glad to show your around or failing that, set you up with someone else who could. We have a good group ride every Sunday morning at 9 meeting, or I lead a ride from the shop Thursday evenings at 5:45. The sunday ride is all-inclusive, no-drop. The Thursday ride picks up the pace a little bit and is a "no rest for the weary" ride. Pace depends on who shows up. Cheers!

How about windham? I've not ridden there but watched the world cup downhill races the past three years. From what I saw the xc racecourse looks pretty cool.

From where the OP is staying, Windham is quite a distant especially with quite a bit of riding available much closer. The xc course is pretty cool but it's only 3.2 miles long.
