    albany rail trail

Couple of shots on the south albany rail trail (in progress, the bridge is fenced off) from today. Love that sunshine.

Nice, dont know how well I could keep up with my bike right now, but would love to get exact coordinates for this bridge to check out on my own time.

Sure wish some money came to finish up some rail and canal trails around here. Anyone know of any firm plans to finish up some rail and canal trails in NY?

Cool shots. Is this the bridge just west of 87? I rode the v'ville -delmar section last year. Still needs work but it was fun. I did it on my road bike...next time I'll use my mtb.

The photos are of the bridge over the Normanskill River just before you get to 87. I think this is the last section that is planned to be opened before you reach Albany's South End. The bridge itself seems fine for bike traffic but is fenced off anyway. The trail up to it however is still just crushed stone rail bed and needs a fair amount of topping and rolling to make it smooth riding. Definitely wouldn't try this part on a road bike : )

I was looking at the assumed area this is at on Google Maps... Where would a trail head be? How about parking?

I would be looking to drive down then ride the trails... also, I would be in the area on a weekday and in the morning. I have not been to this area for biking, any advice you can give?

I usually get to the trail off Rockefeller Rd, but the trail runs out to Vooreesville, in sections, so there are other good places to hop on. Can't say for parking, ride on the road to get there.

If you do get down, there is an old abandoned road at the end of Rockefeller, that crosses the normanskill into albany where there is a nature trail loop and public gardens. A fun loop.

DOT just announced what will likely be the last round of Transportation Enhancement grants availability. Applications due 8/16, I think.
