Anyone in NNJ wanna get a weekly ride together?

I love riding with people, and i want to get a weekly ride going, i dont really care where as long as its off pavement and i'm touching pedals.

    so who MIGHT be in?

we should get a phone list of NNJ riders and a list of generally available times so when people want to ride they stand a chance of knowing who is available.

that said: I'm available most days and weekends for a ride, weekdays i get home from work about 5:30ish, weekends i might be up by noon but could be convinced to get up earlier if i know we're gonna ride.

    weekly ride

I ride every Saturday and Sunday mornings....but I ride early. 7:15am is usually my meeting time. Ringwood & Allamuchy mostly...but go to other areas in NY & NJ occasionally when I have the opportunity. Always welcome to come....but sounds like you don't like to get up early. :-)

    Eagle

Nice. I'd try riding there at night but I'm running new Lupines which I think all of Essex Cty would see me. I feel like Giants Stadium during a Monday night game. If the fuzz busted me and took my bike and my lights I wouldnt be happy. How is it in there, havent rode that place in years.

it was very wet, we rode the first part of mills, then rode down highland, and to eagle rock, through there a bit, rode back to mills, and rode some there.

come monday, we are doing another linked ride

The reservation is a popular place for locals to walk their dogs. In fact, the park is referred to as "ringworm reservation" by some local pet clinics, who ask their clients not to walk their dogs there. Bicycles are prohibited on all trails (including fireroads). But, all of the parks are that way in Essex County. The penalty, as someone told me, is $500 fine and impound of the bike. Most people say that the local police don't care, but I've seen police waiting in the North parking lot at 5:30 AM during a road ride a few months back. Some people have also said that dog-walkers will call police on their cell phones when they see bikers. Not sure if this is true, but riding the trails when they are wet is a certain way to piss off someone. In the same way, the more bikers that ride there during hours that coincide with dog-walking are increasing the chance that the police will up the enforcement of the county rules.

i think the fine is only 100, and they CAN impound your bike.

ive come across lots of hikers/dog walkers. I always slow down or stop and greet them nicely. if you can stay on good terms with the people who go there, they wont call any police..i can only see someone doing that if you are really riding like a jackass. also, most of the trails good for bikes do not have hikers and dog walkers they mostly stick to the fire roads

So far everyone I ran into while riding mills was courteous and I always slowed to say hello. No bad attitudes for the most part, only one old guy that might not have heard me say good morning.

I usually ride about 9 am till whenever on weekdays. Much more quiet at those times. Anyone want to meet up any morning, pm me!

yeah 2 guys and I got stopped by an EC Sheriff last week after dropping out of Mills onto Normal Ave.

he did the normal police thing, asked what we were doing (what the **** does it look like??) and where we were from, told us he had been called out there, and told us never to come back.

    *sigh*

with the taxes we pay to live in EC, i should be able to ride in the parks

yesterday, riding out of Eagle Rock, some lady with a dog said "you know, south mountain is open for biking, and eagle rock isn't" with this nasty tone. I said "thats nice" and kept on my way.

all that said, anyone riding out today? bikery people?

Is there anyway to petition or ask that this park (mills) be opened to riders aswell? why are we unwelcome? did something happen in the past? I did see this IDIOT riding with no helmet on.... the last thing we would need is some shmoe to splatter his grape all over the red trail. I almost felt like telling him something...

the law enforcement presence has been pretty high lately at mills and eagle rock, so we are gonna lay low for a while to let things cool off, and probably hit it back in the colder weather when there are less people.

    gotta love essex county!

Di Vinchenzo (SP?) apparently said something like "I see no point in allowing bicycles in south mountain." I guess fat ass kids playing videogames all day is... good? No biking in South Mountain...yet! Meanwhile a (very mellow and open minded) neighbor of mine who hikes there with his dog every day said an MTB'er bombed downhill right past him and his dog (no leash...) and was kinda bown away by the inconsiderate behavior. Nice job punk, givin' us a bad name whoever it was!

this is so lame, Diablo isnt open during the weeks anymore, and the parks are infested with cops.

makes me wanna cry, all i want to do is ride.

edit: and i have two free passes to Diablo, and i may not get to use them.

If it will help ease your pain, I will gladly take your free Diablo passes. I will ride in your honor those two days, or maybe in an act of kindness give one pass to my girl.

you can get into mills from edgecliff road, or from reservoir rd, but be carefull on edgecliff. if you are going to ride mills, id reccoment going from reservoir road. its not a parking lot enterance and is alot further from the fire roads
