    Winsor Trail Good To Go

Winsor Trail is pretty much good to go, depending on how much you like to pucker. I shuttled with Chapman505 & our buddy Chuck Freeman this morn & had a frickn’ blast. Honestly, if you just ride slower & keep your eyes peeled, it’s all good. There’s one super-dangerous sloped ice patch on the lower end of the steep meadow just above the Borrego/Winsor intersection – Do not ride this section unless you want to get hurt!!! As you will see in the vid, riding this stretch will bring a lot of blood & pain into your world, especially if you hit it as fast as Chuck was going. Chuck rode the rest of the way out, once he could move his hand, and is good, after a trip to the doc & several stitches.
We dropped into the top (close to 10,000 ft) at 9:45am, so we saw good traction in the snow, & frozen, dry sections of trail. Most of the ice had a little “tooth” on the surface, but there are definitely a few slippery surprises in there. Even the bottom near Tesuque was pretty well frozen. We were able to ride the frozen ice across the stream crossings near the bottom. If anyone is dying to for some big downhill & high mountains, it’s good to go, if you make sure to hit it in the morning. I went up & hit some nice spring ski conditions after the MTB ride. It was a pretty nice day, being able to do my 2 favorite things
It was great to finally get out on the bike this year!

Great video! Sorry about your friend getting hurt. Sorry to see the snow pack is so low up there. On a normal year there should be 3 feet of snow in most of that part of the mountain. It is going to be difficult for the Forest Service to keep this stuff open with so little moisture.

That's what I was thinking. Don't give up yet. There's still time for some snowstorms & hopefully, some good early rain this summer.

    Carnage

Well, Chuck spent 1 hour waiting in the urgent care until he started bleeding all over the waiting room. He asked for a bandage to stop the bleeding, so they literally came out with a tiny adhesive band-aid.
After realizing that the little band-aid wasn't going to do the trick, they told him that he needs to go to the ER for a wound like that.
He went to the ER & bled all over the place for another hour & a half until they admitted him. Then spent an hour on cleaning the wound before stitches.
He came out ok, after a long day & he'll be skiing the snow storm all weekend. There goes our hopes for a new shuttle b!tch.
