Tunnel, Otero, David Canyon area trail conditions

With the very active monsoon, the conditions are ever changing. Post the conditions you find here. Plus its time to let the forest closure thread die. That being said, yesterday we got about 4-5 hours of steady too hard rain. Well over an inch at Raven Rd. Very soft and wet right now. Going to take a bit to dry out enough to ride without putting lots of kittens at risk.

Rode Otero this afternoon. It was fairly dry down low, crusty up high with a slippery spot here and there. Definitely rideable though.

I think it just dumped about an inch in the last 45 minutes here in the valley. So much for tomorrow's ride I guess.

Gnasty and top of Otero is a little muddy. Tunnel, tio, good to go. Lots of people on the trails today.

Two very hard downpours and a couple of hours of nice steady rain overnight. Just what we needed to get things back in prime shape. Tunnel was actually starting to get a little dusty. Hero dirt on the way.

    Hurt Rider Sunday?

Rode Tunnel Sunday morning, chopper there to pick up a hurt rider. Anyone know if the guys okay? Kinda brought a somber mood to the ride. Hope he's okay.

Turkey Trot, Cajun and Wild Turkey Trails still closed as of yesterday for tree thinning. Otherwise after a pretty strong storm today, conditions are awesome. Have a safe weekend.

We got it here in the Otero area as well. The ground is nice and moist but not muddy for the most part. Theres those few areas that might have a little mud but prob more hero dirt than mud. I plan on getting some in about an hour or so.

Looked like there was about 2 ft of water flowing down Otero. Plenty of logs and rocks moved around. Made the arroyo crossings interesting.

my buddy texted us a pic of otero yesterday either during or right after the rain. I mean Dayum, that canyon was flowing like the pecos!!!i It had to have been about 2 or more feet of water running down. I think I saw some of Knob's stash floating in the river too!!! Sh! t happens... Oh well

Looks like its going to be tough to find a dry trail this weekend. Rain, rain and more rain. It rained for about 20 hours up here yesterday and some hard rain moving in now. Can't remember getting this much rain over just a few days. Trees and critters ought to be loving this.

Another back-door cold front maybe Sunday night...doesn't look good till about mid-week next week. I'm staying off the trails this weekend. Can't wait to see the desert bloom when the sun comes out though!

Got out on Tunnel and Otero yesterday. Both are in good shape and GTG. Everything I rode held up really held up good to all the rain.

Rode today in Otero, Tunnel. All the trail are good to go. Hero dirt. Birdhouse especially fun. Held up good with all the rain. Packed down and fast.

    Man, I love this thread!

How's the conditions over there this afternoon? Been raining on and off here for the last 12 hours or so.

Not ready to get my new bike all muddy yet, but also dying to try out the new tires I put on it yesterday!

Conditions in Otero are pretty good after the heavy rain overnight. The trails higher up were still a little on the soft side. By tomorrow afternoon everything should be GTG. Pretty damn cold on the way back down.

Too cold. THe ride I'm thinking about is at 10:30, I may just do a quick hour for lunch at the SFH and leave Tunnel/Otero alone until Satuday… Hmm, decisions, decisions… I really should stay at work but I want to ride.

If I didn't have to work tomorrow, I'd give it a go. Prob Tunnel and Otero will be ok with the exception of a few spots. Up towards 3 Bottles might still have mud. Bet it will be mostly good by mid day.

Better get you some East Mtn. riding in while the getting is good. Looking like old man winter could hit pretty hard at the end of the week. I thought we would at least make it to Turkey Day before we got snowed out. It would be nice if the Sandias could actually get some snow this year. We'll see.

I'm hoping for Wednesday or Thursday morning. It was really wet Saturday so we kept it short and to the rockier trails.

Looks like the fat lady is starting to sing. With the foot plus expected later today and tomorrow and the ice and snow on the ground right now. I think the Otero season has come to a close. Other than those brave enough for a snow ride. It's been a awesome season up here. Looking forward to next spring and hopefully a great 3-bottles build for some tech features. See you in the Foothills.

Just don't build any unauthorized "features" afterwards! Surly-Boi might take exception!

    Dry as a bone.

I'm sort of bummed that we can't utilize slope above. It's way more conducive to flow.
