This is probably your best bet for a family ride:

Paseo del Bosque Trail — City of Albuquerque

    Bosque Bikepath

It can get pretty cold in December here.

If you go North from where this trail starts (North of Alameda Blvd), there is a dirt trail through the Cottonwoods that is beautiful. It snakes through the Bosque, and get's close to the river too.
It's about ten miles long one way. A little sand, but pretty fun and flat.

If you want paved paths then the Bosque is cool. Just be prepared for some attitude from the roadies.

If you want dirt (and less tude), there are plenty of double tracks you can ride in the North FooHills. I've ridden from Elena Gallegos with the trailer, kid in tow. Now, he's pretty comfortable on his Redline SS at 5 y/o.

paseo de bosque has some nice flat safe dirt trails that run alongside the rio grande that would be good for anyone
