Sol Vista Mountain States Race Report - Gravity

This weekend was the final Mountain States Race of the season for gravity events. The downhill course was rough, dusty, had HUGE jumps, and was a ton of fun. I won my Cat1 DH race for the old fart 40+ age group. This also gave me second for the championship since I didn't do any of the 4x races which are included for points. Chris Boice won the Pro race which also gave him the title for the season . My son Ben beat my time for the second time this season by just a fraction of a second . Josh Wilcox of Los Alamos won his second ever 4x race for Cat3 Jr. Everyone else from Los Alamos and New Mexico had good times in all their events. Here are some pics from the weekend:

The "Lip Skidder": 40'+ jump that took out one kid really bad over the weekend. Most weren't hitting it but Ben & I liked it because it was built really smooth and all you needed was good speed to clear it.

Josh Wilcox of Los Alamos on the second step down. This one didn't save much time but was a very fun jump:

    Two More Pics

My sister took these two of me at the top of the course. She let us stay at her 1/4 share condo in Winter Park

Thanks for the picture stoke! Looks like a great track. We just hit Angle Fire for their closing weekend. I can't believe AF doesn't get hyped up more. That place is gnarly! A lot has changed since I was racing up there 4-5 years ago. They have added some pretty big jumps, log rides, skinnies, natural obstacles, and some variations to some old lines. I can't wait to get back later this year for the Final Descent and next year. Yeehaw!

I haven't heard anything about the Final Descent. You got any word on that?

I have heard they're having the 12 hour Red Bull Burner DH race again this year though.

The Red Bull Burner is on for October 10th! They will have a Final Descent freeride day on the 11th. I e-mailed the guy in charge of the race and got the following answers:

    Categories:
    Solo - Mens/Womens Pro and Mens/Women's Expert
Duo - Pro & Expert - any mix of two riders
Team - Open Class - any mix of 3-4 riders

    Costs:
    $80 for solo, $70 for duo(per person), $60 for team(per person)

    Rules:
Riders will have 3 options down the mountain, which can be picked at your discretion....obviously if there are faster riders coming, you need to move over.

    Size of this year's event:
It will be bigger, but not much. We have to limit riders due to what we feel will be safe and provide a good flow. The race is limited to 150 entries.....and I'm thinking we will get a few big names in there......

    When will website be up:
Crossing my fingers it will be up over the next couple of days
    http://www.redbullburner.com/

    Producer of event:
This is a Red Bull event, and Bigfoot (Mountain States Cup) is helping produce it.

Stuff for families and support people during the day:
We will have music/food/drinks at the base.....and whatever else we come up with between now and then.

Registration is now up at http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=9353
