    Show me the way?

Good afternoon fellow New Mexican MTBR's. I am going to be down in Turkey town this Sunday and would love to ride either Tunnel-Otero or Cedro. I don't know either enough to ride there alone. I guess I could find my way through the Tunnel Otero ride, maybe.
Is anyone riding in one of those areas Sunday that wouldn't mind me coming along? I will supply post ride libations for your friendliness Thanks

I am working on my pump track on Sat. with a few heads so I hope to get out on Sunday. I would not mind showing you around if you did mind a slow fat ass riding with you for the day?

Hey Ricky, Sweet. let me know. I am going to try to be around the trail head Sunday round 10ish. I am going to look at a vehicle down there hopefully before hand. Be great to get shown around. Which would you rather ride Otero or Cedro? I am flexible on the time though.

Weather is looking pretty bad for Sunday, cold, with rain and snow forecast. There's a chance of rain today too. Otero and Cedro may be muddy for a while.

FYI: Perfect conditions at Otero today. No rain at all this afternoon.

Forecast calls for winter weather this weekend, though. I wouldn't attempt it if it actually snows Saturday night.

    Otero update.
Trail was a bit greasy in spots and perfect in others. Ride had quite a bit of on and off rain today, but still fine as of 5 this evening. Noticed that Otero had a few trees purposely down across the trail in sections.

In the spirit of Friday the 13 the trail was fitting.

    Nice shots.

The burn area singletrack is packing in nicely. Got freshies through there a couple months back and we were barely able to stay on the original trail. Are the directional logs we laid out still there?

Thanks, Steve. If you're not doing anything in a couple of hours, could I get an update as to whether or not to come out there this afternoon. I was hoping to get one more lap in before it gets too messy.

Im going to town for a while but there is still a steady drizzel. I think the window has closed for the day. If we get snow tonight the window might be closed for a while.

just finished riding Otero/Tunnel @ 10:30 w/ PJLama & CJ and conditions were actually great (if you don't mind a light drizzle). Can't say what they now at almost noon, but how bad could it be?

    Last one out ...

Although the worst of it is down in Otero Canyon, as it has been lately, all the rocks have gotten pretty dang slippery since about 4pm. Not fun anymore. Pretty dang chilly, too. I suspect tomorrow the slippery rocks will be icy rocks. If it doesn't rain/snow anymore than it has been, it might bounce back quickly after a couple of sunny days, because the trails (except for lower Otero) are still in very good shape.

We were just following existing tracks. While faint they were still there. Did not see any of the directional logs in the area as we were moving at a fairly quick clip based on the weather and other traffic above.

So - is anyone riding Otero tomorrow? I think we are hitting Gutierrez Canyon tomorrow for some Homer fun!

If you get up here early enough you can hit the crusties in Otero, but it will likely be sloppy after about Midday. FWIS...we got about a half inch of snow in town.

EDIT: I actually went outside this time. Just a dusting. Since I live here, I'd probably try to hit. 'course I'd call mtbike52 first, though.

Otero and Cedro will be muddy today. I guess most everything will be, aside from South Foothills. Temps are above freezing right now, so getting a ride in before the thaw is unlikely.

If you've got options up in SF I'd take them.

    All White

We have about 3" of snow on the ground overnight here on Raven Rd. Pluss it only 25 deg. out right now. I think It would be a little tough today.

Don't you worry I already know the route I am talking you on . In case you did not know we have more trails than foothills you should get out more. Maybe most just think you can't ride anything more technical so they just keep you in the foothills, who knows? Hit me up next summer and I can show you some better stuff than foothills if your down. Are you bringing those wide, sissy ass, bars of yours again?

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone even puts mary bars on a mountain bike. Seriously, I want to hear what good they actually do. This is not a cheap shot or a smart aleck remark.
And riding a single speed isn't even that hard. I actually rode one in Cochiti this summer and it was actually pretty easy. I understand single speeders' desire for simplicity, but they shouldn't be considered 'hard core' or 'tougher' by anymeans. We've all been riding single speeds since we got our first bikes as little kids. I like suspension and gears because they allow me to express a riding style that just isn't achieved on the same scale with a hardtail single speed. At the same time I don't call singlespeeders 'wussies' either.

But back to the mary bar thing, why do people put them on mountain bikes, seriously? I need to hear a real honest answer besides for 'style points' & a 'retro look' or 'I can't turn my injured wrist'.
Nothing against you, Maka, I like you a lot. I just want to hear your real reasons for calling your equipment hardcore and giving yourself props on how you ride on it while dissing ours. The bikes we ride (gears & susp.) open up a fun factor that is pretty amazing, even when not being used to their full potential. It's like making love to a beautiful woman instead of an average one, even if you have no love makin' skills.
That's coming from a guy who loves riding a hardtail too.

Tj,if you rode your bike{do you still ride} you would know I havn't rocked Mary bars for 2 years and for the rest of your questions would and could be answered if you got yourself in a little better shape for bike riding instead of sporting a basketball jersey ,gold plated chains and bar hopping.I never prop myself like the above and post vanity shots, and why do you think your so hard core cause you bag women with low self esteem and poor hygiene or ride a dually and hit drops? Are you comparing your santacruz rip off sold by pricepoint bike a fine woman, lol.I'm not impressed /as in been there done that.
Do you still ride a bike?

I don't know how tough or hardcore you have to be to ride a SS, but as far as SS'rs go, Maka does have one truly outstanding accomplishment. To my knowledge, he's the one and only to have ever raced the Chupacabras 100K on a SS, and a lot of other "hardcore" SS'rs, from Wilson to Smokin' Ray, have raced that course, but opted for gears. And, as I recall, Maka finished very well up in the results in that race as well.

Different strokes for different folks, and credit where it's due.

I really dont think were going to have a race when Maka comes down.We will prob have a great ride and have a great time, as with most rides. All the bantering is just good fun. I dout if anyone takes things to seriously. Were all in it for the ride. And besides that, Maka started it.

I've ridden them for a while and liked them. It's a very natural hand position and it prevents fatigue, especially over a long haul. Only reason I'm not running them now is all my bikes have oversized stems and I haven't found any oversized Mary's. But I'd go with them if I did.

    My honest answer!

If you are riding a rigid fork the benefit is that they turn your wrists to a more "upright" position where they can resist shock in a straighter line with your forearm. If you are running a suspension fork or full suspension you may have other priorities, but they made a big difference on my rigid bike. I can hit rougher shlt harder, bottom line.

You prolly excercise your wrists so much that you don't need them.
I ride with the best dogs.

I miss being around to kick your ass-chut! I stable Ciocc & Merlin road bikes, Specialized supercross, Kona 26" rigid SS, VooDoo Bokor Alum. HT ( weighs a whopping 20.5 lbs ), and the Titus FS and have the opportunity to ride and play with all my toys. Do you play with all your toys. Do you share your toys? Come on out for some real single tracking and I'll share mine. Copper Harbor in the UP next summer? Arkansas this winter? Costa Rica in the spring?

Did you get special permission to ride the freshies, A? How does one go about getting permission to ride on illegal trails. Your reputation precedes you and I just know that you would not want to make the MTB community look bad in the eyes of other trail users that obey the law.

Maybe it's just you that is allowed to break the law? You are special, right?

Let me ask a very direct question. Is it ok or not ok to explore the "burn area"?

It's humorous that you cannot differentiate between riding some burnt out trails in the middle of nowhere, and putting other trail users at risk of injury on a busy section of trail.

Your pathetic attempt to draw me into an argument is just that, pathetic. But thanks for reminding me why I choose to have nothing to do with you.

BTW, do you really want to make accusations of illegal behavior against me? Kinda opens the door for me to do the same to you...

    I don't pretend to be a "do-gooder" either.

    Draw you in....? Bwah,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha...LMFAO!!!

Your injury excuse has been addressed....BTW. You need to address the Off Trail issue, but you can't...because, you think that your the only one that has the "presence of mind" to break the rules. How self serving...

Here's the problem with trying to have a rational discussion with you, it's not possible. You live in your own little dream world where spewing out nonsense somehow wins the argument in your own eyes.

I rode an established trail, that dozens of others including yourself ride. But somehow that's worse than you building an off trail drop, in plain sight of the main trail, that runs right out into the legitimate trail jeopardizing other trail users (yeah, I know you think it's not an issue, but you're wrong).

Carry on with your clueless existence... ignorance is bliss, ignorance is bliss...

Here's the problem with discussing things with you. You spew stuff about me that is not at all factual in order to propagate your OCD.

More sentence fragments, and bizarre claims not founded in reality. You're really on a roll today.

"propagate your OCD" = pure gold

Try to only use words and acronyms that you understand the meanings of, and/or concept behind. You'll appear more intelligent that way.

    You need a lay-man...

It appears to me after a few years of going back and forth with you that you are obsessed (OCD) with assassinating me and you do this most often in a public forum in order to gain the support of others. (Propaganda). It may or may not be accurate, but it's the feeling that I get. If I had an interest in following "by the book" it would be all or nothing. That way everyone knows where I'm coming from and what to expect from me.

You wear a false Halo AndyN and that won't win you any more awards than me. If your so opposed, talk to some people that can make a difference. Hide out and take some pictures, but make sure that those people know that you think riding in the withdraw area is ok. Something tells me that you might be facing a much worse penalty than me for hitting a silly little drop that someone else showed me (you'd probably get a kick out of it, too). I'd say they care much more about you being there than you might think. Especially since almost 50% of my efforts to get up there have been thwarted by heli's. Keep thinking that your on a righteous path and hopefully it's not to late for you to laugh at yourself when you finally figure out that your fighting a battle that you really don't believe in.

I simply pointed out that a drop you guys like to hit has bad news written all over it for numerous reasons. Valid reasons.

As usual, you skirted the issue as would a politician, and then you proceeded to make this a multi-thread pissing match complete with accusations of illegal doings.

You do things quite frequently that I, and many others, find foolish. You make sure everyone sees the foolish things you do by posting pictures of said acts on the internet. You then get upset if anyone disagrees with your actions on said internet forum. WTF? Stop doing foolish things, or stop posting pictures of yourself doing foolish things, or stop whining when you get called out for doing foolish things and posting pictures of it. Pretty simple really.

I do not want to assassinate you, and I am not looking for the support of others. I am time and time again trying, in vain, to reason with you. Some things you do are foolish and wrong, I just want you to realize that and hopefully refrain from doing those things.

These are facts that paint you in a bad light, shocking that you don't agree.

And as far as you knowing how I think goes, well, you can't even think for yourself. So don't bother trying to think for anyone else.

As soon as I learned of your appointment as FOO trail liason I cancelled my membership. So no, I won't be joining you at any meetings. Capiche?
