    Sandia foothills

New to the area and thought it would be fun to go get muddy, are the foothills rideable in all this rain. If not what are some suggestions for other trails that are after this much rain.

    Thanks

One thing you learn quickly in NM is that if it rains, don't go riding on trails. The mud is soul-sucking.

You might be able to ride the South Foothills, but I really have no idea of their condition right now.

If you want to get muddy try the bosque. Those trails don't suffer damage like the mountain trails and even if they do get rutted no one seems to care. For New Mexico, the general mtb community prefers not to ride on muddy trails. The damage sustained to the single track for our climate is not worth it in the long run. It keeps the single track single.

The south foothills were fine yesterday, just a couple puddles but not much more. Not sure how they've held up with the additional rain last night.

Sounds good. I'll be riding there today. Can't wait to hit A-Line again!

Rode at the top of Montgomery this morning and they are very rideable! Just keep an eye out at the arroyo areas as theyve been washed out. Otherwise, I havent seen running water like this in years! Love it!

We rode both North and South FH yesterday. The trails were overall in pretty good shape. Very little mud but like JB said, plenty of ruts to look out for. Two water crossings in the NFH. haven't seen that for quite a while.

Yup. I thought I saw your truck in the Menaul parking lot, but wasn't sure.

Rode the North Foothills this evening and the conditions were awesome. Aside from the stray puddle, the trails were nice and tacky.

The trails are in pretty bad shape. The haul south of candelaria and west from indian school is sand and gravel the whole way. Many spots are rutted. The worst thing is all of the goat heads. Most are green right now but when they dry its going to be horible. Dont forget to top up your sealant. Its all dry though...

Very true. Soooo nice to see the H2O up there!

Good to run into you guys on the trail, as always....

Have fun and be safe in Moab this week. Post some good footage for us waterlogged peeps.

North is great. Rode from Cedar Hill south and around Elena and conditions were just fine. And as a bonus, I missed by a few inches the biggest rattlesnake I've seen in years. Angry, she was.

Need to get up there before the weather gets any worse. Been hammering up and down on the road for a bit to build some stamina, and it's been literally years since I rode in the foothills.
