    Riding Otero in Dec??

Today is the last day of Nov and it's hard to believe there isn't any snow in the east mts.

Who's planning on getting some action in on Tunnel/Otero over the next 10 days or so - there is no better riding weather to be had, anywhere!

Last year RCC and I had our last Otero ride mid-December. As much as I love the East, it needs to get buried in snow.

5 or 6 years ago we had a winter where we were able to ride the east mtns over the entire winter. The forest was closed late that spring. Let it snow please and soon!

I managed to get trail bitten at Otero today. Resulted in a trip to urgent care but no stitches.

It was a most unspectacular crash too.

Not sure, I tried the 661 Evos on, but just in the store. The POCs have the same EVO material (foam? smart foam?)

I do love the POCs though.

I need to revise my clip and add in the part about 30 seconds before the incident where I said, "This is fun!" as we were dropping down the canyon.

    Front wheel washout.
That happened to me last weekend in Red Mesa as I was going full speed. Damn! I went down hard too.

I may have had too much air pressure up front. Managed to bend my rim a bit too.

    Gah.

Should not have been a problem. At the bottom of that wash there is a rock perfectly placed in the middle of the trail (as long as nobody moves it...) I think you caught that rock with the wrong part of your tire and went down. Happened to me in the Sandias. I flew headfirst into a stump and nearly knocked myself out. Busted my glasses, dented my helmet, and put an incurable wobble in the front wheel.

Yeah, looked like the "rock" took him out. Maybe the rock bandits missed that one.

Nate IXS makes some good knee pads as well.

Skerry's Rule: if the rock is loose, take it out. Looks like that one is still very solid, in spite of the dry weather. Been there many years and probably surprised a lot of folk.

I've been thru that section many many times and never had any concerns.

Just got jacked up this time.

Oh well, $hit happens - it's all part of the game.

Not good at all. Maybe I'll ask Santa for some knee guards. But she'll just tell me to slow down. Maybe if I come in with a trashed knee...

Looks like to me he washed out in the loose dirt to the down side of the rock. With the soil so loose and dry it is much more likely to happen.
The weather's good but the trails are too damn dry....

Back in mid-2008, I had my rims built by a guy here on mtbr, mikesee who has a business building 29r wheel sets called: Lace Mine 29 - Big Bicycle Wheels

After telling him my riding style etc he built my wheels using Bontrager's Duster rims (tubeless) and Hopes Pro II hubs.

Never has a single problem with the wheels until my 'incident' last Saturday - not even a loose spoke.. nada.

The weather man says we're supposed to have a high today of 39 up in Otero - I'm doubtful since it looks warmer already this morning (sunshine/blue skies et al).

But a cold front is on the way, forecast low temp for Tijeras is 9 deg tonite.

Left today to ride Faulty under sunny skies and rising temperatures. Faulty was dry as a bone . Ended the ride with snow falling and diving temperatures. Made me forget the pain of the SS. The precip is great even though the trail selection will narrow. Wait, this isn't the Faulty Trail thread...

That last Otero ride might be a little tough. Good news is, there's plenty of ice at Otero for your Camelback. Got the feeling Otero is done for the season.
