    Beggin' for change...

Is there a cap on the number of participants again this year?

I think we've rounded up a squad. Looks like it will be a joint venture between the Abq Bando's and the SF Wrekin' Crew. We are looking for Sponsors!

Until they get their site up below is a bunch of info that was e-mailed to me that I had posted on a different thread. I just registered Ben, Julian, and myself as "The Screaming Squirrels". Registration is already up to 35 (as of 7:40pm, 9/13/09). I gotta get me some lights

The Red Bull Burner is on for October 10th! They will have a Final Descent freeride day on the 11th.

    Categories:
    Solo - Mens/Womens Pro and Mens/Women's Expert
Duo - Pro & Expert - any mix of two riders
Team - Open Class - any mix of 3-4 riders

    Costs:
    $80 for solo, $70 for duo(per person), $60 for team(per person)

    Rules:
Riders will have 3 options down the mountain, which can be picked at your discretion....obviously if there are faster riders coming, you need to move over.

    Size of this year's event:
It will be bigger, but not much. We have to limit riders due to what we feel will be safe and provide a good flow. The race is limited to 150 entries.....and I'm thinking we will get a few big names in there......

    When will website be up:
Crossing my fingers it will be up over the next couple of days
    http://www.redbullburner.com/

    Producer of event:
This is a Red Bull event, and Bigfoot (Mountain States Cup) is helping produce it.

Stuff for families and support people during the day:
We will have music/food/drinks at the base.....and whatever else we come up with between now and then.

Registration is now up at http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=9353

I've got an old-tech one I can loan you.

Geoman's local and can set you up with some budget blinders or break your bank.

There was a thread awhile back on him here. Careful on clicking on that link, the thread deteriorated rapidly

    "Be Advised"

They WILL NOT let you on the lift after sundown if you do not have capable lights. Meaning the better be pretty good. I actually think my 'ecolocator' works better than knobs single-lumen lantern.

You'd have to ask Lidarman but from what I understand this is by far the highest output night light for the $. I got it from http://www.geomangear.com/. I was hoping to check it out last night but it didn't come yet . Hopefully I'll have it today.

    No.

One of these DIY designs will hold the mantel of brightest bike lights, but not for another week or two. This is probably the one that'lll be the brightest.

I've got one of these on order, but it won't make it here for the Burner. It should push a bit over 2k lumens with the ability to focus the beam with different lenses.

Checked out his website, pretty nice looking lights.

Got any specs on that light you're buying, including price? Didn't see anything on his site.

PM or email me if you don't want potential muggers knowing what your trick new lights are worth.

You better drive fast, it's 7 now and it is a 2.3 hour drive to Taos. Cops have been sitting in Pilar almost every day, careful through there, the county is way short on funds.

Darn Taos hippies. Can't even remember what day it is... You gonna be able to make it over to AF anytime after Friday? The Afterburner Party on Saturday night should be a blast. You and Cat should come out.
By the way. I swear that porter of yours is some of the best I've ever had. You da man.

    More Stoke

Ben & I tried out our new lights on 4 shuttle runs down Nail Trail last night. Downhilling in the dark is a trip but the lights work great. I tried one run with one light on the bars and one on my helmet but preferred just having the one on the bars over the movement from the light on my helmet. That would be different if I didn't know the course and was looking for stuff on either side.

Here's some more stoke for the weekend of DH & FR

Bikeworks held onto there title for 1st in open team. We (Screaming Squirrels) were on their butts all day and were about four minutes behind them at the end of the day. They made one more run than us and we got second, two runs in front of Team Geronimo who got third. Dom's team got fourth. He had a big wreck but is doing OK with a lot of bruises. Bandoleros got sixth which is pretty good for 6" travel bikes on a gnarly DH course.

Chris Boice's Dual Pro Team won and Matson Hunter's team won the Expert Duo Team.

    NM Represented well

DH runs in the dark were cool as hell! I hit all the jumps but nearly ate it off the road gap when I unclipped in the air but just barely managed to hold on.

This was the hardest and funnest by far competitive event I've ever been involved in

Thanks Neal Could you post up (or edit) the total laps?

Clipped in? Where you on your little bike (smaller bike) clipped in all race?

Awesome job BTW Neal the night riding sounds crazy. Did you go with two lights on the bars or just one?

Yes, clipped in. Definitely rode the big bike (Demo 8). Gotta have big suspension for the AF rock gardins! I kept the smaller one around for a spare or for spare parts but never had to use it.

Bikeworks got 33 laps, we just missed the 8:45 cut so we did 32, 3rd place did 30 laps, and I don't know what the rest were. I'm guessing they'll be online sooner or later.

I did my first dark run with one light on the bar and that was actually fine. I tried the second lap with two on the bars and a Y cable from my battery but one of the lights kept turning off. I should have just used both batteries. The only real advantage to having two is that I could have had one focused close for the rocks and one focused far for the fast straight sections.

I was planning on doing the Final Freeride Day today but everyone else was too burnt out so we just drove home. The Bandos were planning on heading towards Chama. I don't know how their gonna feel today though.

Chama (Archuletta) was awesome. Put in about 6.5 hours of tough climbs & rough terrain. That was some of the most beautiful stuff I've seen this year. We are officially spent.
Neil, you're right. 6 inches is just not enough for Angel Fire's real runs! Had a blast. Good to see you guys up there.

The most laps was 33. It was a battle in the end for the Pro's. We were aiming for a top five and had we got the 29 runs in, we may have clinched it. We ended up just one lap short of our goal, but it was a good, good time

Bryan, did you or anyone else get any Burner pics? I didn't even have my camera. I hope someone took a long time exposed picture of night racers.
