New Found Alternative for Winter Riding

So just got a I-FIT enabled Stationary Recumbent about a week ago to keep my legs moving during the winter season. Evidently it has been out for at least a year. This technology simulates riding pretty much anywhere in the world, via google maps and you actually see the street, path, trail, whatever, as if you were riding on it. I rode in the Alps in Europe yesterday and up to the Crest today while watching Football on TV. When climbing it adjusts the resistance on the bike as well. Pretty cool.

Just though I would share this until the trails are ready later this year in case some of you are looking for an alternative during this time of the year like I was. It's no replacement, but it is fun to create workouts and share with others and compete with other riders aroun the world in simulated races. I think I will "ride" the Great Wall of China tomorrow.

and here is a quick vid of ifit in action. This video is of a treadmill but the bikes works the same way.

There are treadmills, upright bikes and rumbent bikes from most manufacturers that can support this. This is what I got.
    NordicTrack® Commercial VR Exercise Bike

It won't be for everyone but I am enjoying it. Maybe some of you will to.

    Bsafe.

Did you post a link in the stationary recumbent forum as well? How about a review. Did you right a review?

    Thanks,

Sadly this is no joking matter. I have little time for riding lately. I have a huge project up in LANL that has been taking up all my riding time and will continue to for a couple more months. I leave ABQ an hour before the sunrise and come home an hour after sunset. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

You'd think they would make those things a little more shapely...

I guess it's no worse than Knobs single lumen night light he purchased from REI. It was literally a candle in a teacup. Poor fella really had to go to the bathroom, but the wind kept blowing out his candle.

Would be fun to find out, though.

If you have to ride indoors, might as well do it right:

When I stayed in Honolulu circa 1994 we would sometimes "cruise" through Ala Moana. The tires weren't near as much of a concern back then, as the brakes.

So into first few days of spring I am still in pretty good riding shape thanks to the stationary trainer bike. Now with the all the sun and my 4 hours of driving per day over with, I can resume riding in the outdoors having not missed a beat.

I am still slow though... but at least I can go a long way.

    Pics or it didnt happen.

    Yes. It is real. #IwasNOTkidding.

It is virtual riding. When you climb it gets harder, when you go downhill it gets easier. I have been to Santa Fe on I25, Brazil, all over Europe, Asia and even ridden sections of the Great wall of China. You create your own workout and google maps street view takes you there. You can also do your own videos and share rides with others or use workouts others have created.
