    Thanks fellas.

I could see myself spending summers up there, but the winters are harsh. There is still snow on the ground in ALOT of places.

The Forest is actually pretty sick in many places from beetle kill. I was taken back by how much it has changed since I was up there last.

    Chase,

There are two or three separate rides that you could string together up there. I like the Archuleta ride, but it's difficult to navigate. The other being an out and back on the CDT @ Cumbres Pass. You could ride all the way to Pinos Falls once you top out near Flat Mountain, but it has not been cleared and would not be fun to negotiate.

The Archuleta ride, which shoots you up into the Chama River headwaters, begins about 5.5 miles into FS 121 off of Hwy 17. There are No Trespassing signs all over the place, but there is an easement as long as you stay on the road. The CDT heading north starts at the Cumbres Pass just below the train trestle. Lots of info on the web, I think.

The third ride is a doosy! You can catch the CDT on the other side of Hwy 17 at the trestle and ride clear into the Brazos. <<--I have yet to explore very much of this area, but I know others that lurk here have a good idea about what you might be in for.

I'm not good at giving written directions, so let me know if you have plans and I can scribble together a pretty good map for you. Total drive time is about 3 hrs if you follow the speed limit.
