    Jury Gap - Riverside, BIG!

Now that the desert has cooled off and the lifts have shutdown for the bikes, NM big freeriding is back in full swing. We had a killer day at the Well and finished it off with some big hucks at the Riverside. Almost everyone was hitting the huge Jury Gap:

Ah... I would, for sure - since the weekends I'm on kid-duty anyhow - but THIS weekend we're headed to Boulder, CO to race the huge Boulder Cup cyclocross races.

I look forward to seeing some photos from the beginners - and more of the huge stuff you guys are doing. Hopefully Rich produces some more videos soon - as they are addictive.

BTW It's way hot out there now but no worse than ABQ I would guess Riverside is a fall/winter place

Larry told me you were heading north soon but I was not sure exactly when. I know it is mainly for the winter but fig we could sesh for an hr at RS, then head over to the trash pit for the rest of the day. I will hit you up when you get back

No, I guess the GF is out of town for a bit and no word from Neal. I heard it was blocked off so you could not drive back there anymore but Rich was going to let me know. Kind of wanted to hit it with Neal the first time, he was going to show me gear and I wanted to follow him in to see proper speed. I did not want to come up short on that one if you know what I mean.

I did finally build up my big bike so ready next time everyone heads up

I'd have to agree with RS in that place is just too hot to bother going to in the summer. That and I've been way too busy with work, riding Pajarito, and racing this summer to head out to big FR spots. Hopefully in the fall...

I am not talking about sun tanning all day just an hr or two in the morn. while its still COOL. I understand to the big dogs this is prob since they have hit it so many times and i get that. Its just one place I wanted to hit up again to hit Jury and the safety line. No worries I can prob talk Larry into talking me up for a few pics and I will just need to hit it solo I guess.

I want to get this out of the way then hit, this

    and this before years end

That's cool your setting a lot of goals but set hitting things when your comfortable as number one goal, even if it means not hitting something you've planned a whole day for but didn't feel like you’re in the zone when you got to it.

You know about mine and Ben's injuries but my 12-year-old daughter lacerated her liver on Chupacabra on the last DH weekend. She was just cruising down the course going around or rolling the jumps. She came up to the big one near the end and forgot you couldn't role it but had too much speed and went flying OTB and her bars went into her stomach. It didn't seem like she was that hurt but a CAT scan showed a 5cm deep laceration of her liver which was quickly followed up by an airlift to UNM hospital. She stayed stable the entire time and ended up not needing surgery since the liver does such a good job at heeling itself. She's doing fine now and has to take it easy for a while with sports. Anyways, don't mean to scare the H out of anyone but you've got to respect every single jump and trail you hit. Our whole family is re-evaluating how hard we push things. Ben and I are too addicted to this stuff to stop but we're definitely thinking more about how we do it.

With all that said, the Jury Gap isn't very hard considering how big it is because the run out is so long and soft. The speed is basically a coast without really braking or pedaling. It would still be better to follow someone the first time you hit it though. I want to get through this weekend at Pajarito and the following weekend of racing at Sol Vista before I get back in to big freeride mode (it’s also a suspension setup thing).

No I got you on that one. If I am not feeling it I will pass. I went down south to specifically hit Donkey Punch. Had the FF, pressure suit, better bike (but still AM bike). Did not hit it on day one and passed on day two due to the wind and was not feeling it. When I saw the GF was not suiting up I fig. that was my sign NOT to hit it. If the GF was passing that should tell me something. I listen to everyone as well who may have hit a certain spot so I do not go in all balls out and stupid but that does not happen all the time.

I heard about this from Larry on Sunday and almost called you. Man very scary when it comes to your kids. I am glad to hear she is doing better but thanks for the update Neal.

I will keep this in mind when attempting JG I hope to follow someone in on that day. I hear you I need to do the same this Sat. last time I flopped on a log after triple threat, man that crap hurt. I want to try to make SV as well if I can round up enough funds so I need to stay healthy as well

Ah, changed locations on me to confuse me Sounds good but prob do not want to post that with all the stuff going on up there. Besides you know me I do not build or ride ANYTHING that is illegal, you know me man, by the books man, by the books. Besides I have been told I do not work hard enough by some unknown person (DB ) so not sure I would be the best to take on that build.
