    It's elk season in NM!

I went for an afternoon ride up on the Dome on thursday and scared up an elk on the first part of Motown trail. On the last half of the trail, a little before I got to my truck, I heard "zziing Bang!". Man, I hit the dirt flat on my belly yelling "G*damm%t hold your da##m fire. I ain't a @%*%* elk!." After a couple of minutes of silence I got up and picked up my bike. I heard no more shots or any other noise, so I jumped on my bike and hustled the quarter mile or so to the end of the trail and my truck. I imagine some hunter was sitting there saying "Oh sh*t!" I am just glad the guy was a lousy shot. Oh yeah, I was wearing a bright red road bike jersey. I am aware that it is hunting season. Maybe I should get a bell or something.
Anyway, If any of you folks are out in the woods, be aware.

Yep, my season came and went last week with nary an elk myself. Hunting is Sat-Wed, so riding should be relatively uneventful on Thurs/Friday.
