    Hotel suggestions for Santa Fe?

I'm heading from Tucson to Michigan, stopping in Santa Fe the night of Saturday 8/1/09. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, cheapish hotel somewhere either downtown or near access to the Dale Ball trail system? B and B's and cabins are cool too.

On a side note, does anyone local to Santa Fe want to ride Dale Ball on Sunday 8/2? I'm down to ride anything, just want to sample the local flavor and enjoy cooler temps than the toaster-oven we call Tucson (106 today).

    Thanks in advance- Evan

There isn't much cheapish in downtown or on the same side of town as the Dale Ball trails, but here are some suggestions that aren't too far (caveat; I live in SF so I've never stayed in these places, but I hear things - these are where I'd go if I were visiting }:

The El Rey - cool and with retro Rt 66 style:

The Sage Inn - pretty good location, not too fancy:

Garrett's Desert Inn - the closest to the plaza and DB trails, possibly overpriced but great location:

    Santa Fe Motel and Inn:

If all that's a little rich for your blood, there are most brands of generic motels out on Cerrillos Road which is a ways from downtown and the DB trails - Super 8, HEI, Comfort Inn, etc, - just don't leave anything valuable in your car overnight.

Evan,Check this thread first. If I were you I would avoid Santa Fe at all costs. Amarillo might be a better bet.

This will be my 4th trip through Santa Fe. and I've enjoyed it every time. Just because some random dude got buttsore about some weird experiences doesn't make me wanna skip the town. Some people just don't understand the Southwest. I've heard way worse about Texas (hey, they produced the Bush dynasty), but I still try to give it the benefit of the doubt. Also, isn't Amarillo really hot right now?

You are right I just looked at a map. This whole time I thought "Toas" and Santa Fe were the same thing. I guess you learn something every day.

There are maps of New Mexico? Now it's my turn to learn something.
