    GITA Logistics Thread

    Friday ride:
Battleship in the Jemez Mountains led by Eric B. (I hope!)
    or
Rio En Medio in Santa Fe led by notaknob (PM him for interest!)

    Saturday
Guaje Canyon led by Jim Beam
    or
ride the lifts at Pajarito $20 all day (9-3)

Saturday late afternoon, gather back up the ski hill for some Ullrfest festivities until 5 pm (meet in front of the OLD lodge, there should be picnic tables both on the deck and below. I like below so I can sneak the doggies in), live music 12-4; beer tasting 12-5. After 5 pm, there is a covered area with fireplace at Camp May where gathering can take place, but I'm sure, weather permitting, we can linger around.

    Sunday
South Boundary shuttle; ride assisted by greg de taos
There is a less painful shuttle plan (~30 min as opposed to ~1 hour or more)
Bottom of shuttle is in a shady park area near creek.
Meet at the Bean (south at the intersection of 64) at 7:30 am. (~75 minutes from LA)

**IF YOU ARE CALLED OUT AS RIDE LEADER, PLEASE POST MEETING PLACE/TIME**

My cell: 505.412.3191 if needed. I'll be in LA all week to work (21-25).
    Carrie

For those coming in Thursday or Friday night, there is camping at Camp May in Los Alamos, which is up past the ski hill, Pajarito. Basically, Camp May Road is a dirt road off of the ski hill parking lot. You can see the loop here (green loop):

Have any of you all checked to make sure that it's not a rave weekend at Camp May (I wouldn't know where to begin to check)? If it is, you're probably gonna want to choose someplace else to camp. I can offer a few suggestions if necessary, but none are gonna be as nice as Camp May, so long as you're not sharing it with 50+ ravers.

They normally do the raves during the full moon and it looks like the next full moon is Oct 4th. We should be safe but I don't know how to be 100% sure. The county might know if any groups have reserved the camp ground.

Where are we shuttling to on Sunday? How many bikes? I am willing to drive anywhere on this side of the mountains but I would really like to avoid going all the way to Angel Fire so that I can still get my ride in.

Aspens should be great next weekend, they have just started to really turn.

Let me know asap as I will be jammin' back from ABQ late Saturday.

Can you bring Dave's stuff with you? I think he left a few things behind a few weeks ago.

ding-ding-ding! Yup, for last years GITA, we turned at the covered wagon, drove up a dirt road to start our climb. Since I've only done it once, I was hoping Greg you would know that spot. It saved us a lot of drive time

    Yep.
For those that are coming from AZ on Friday morning, you would be better off to exit I -25 at 550/Bernalillo. Take hwy 550 to hwy 4 which is probably 25 miles from Bernalillo. Veer right on hwy 4 and arrive at the upper parking lot for Battleship Rock in approximately 30 minutes.

You guys/gals don't want to do EBT? That route is really bad right now with the recent 4 inches of rain in the last week and a half. FR 70 has turned into a river. I really don't mind the extra five minutes of driving for the huge gain in quality and 1000 ft of elevation gain.

Re-schedule of the South Boundary ride

Meet at The Bean at 8:30. Drink their coffee at your own risk: it is BADASS!

People are coming from Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Eldorado to ride SBT. The previously announced meet time is unreasonable, so the meeting time is changed to 8:30.

I wasn't going to make it but now that there is the possibility of a rave, I'm in. The only thing better than S Boundary is doing it hopped up on X. But what is a rave with only 50 people anyway? Oh wait, it is a Los Alamos Rave.

.....But seriously, I had planned to attend but unless things radically change here, I won't be attending yet again. And it looks like a good one though. Can't wait for the report.

LA Snow, PS: LA Ride Tonight

Just woke up this morning to this (it's looking towards the mountains around Los Alamos from my backyard):
    LASnow.jpg

Don't worry , it will be gone by noon and it's supposed to be sunny all weekend

PS: If anyone's coming into Los Alamos on Thursday you are more than welcome to ride with the local mountain bike club, the Tuffriders (http://tuffriders.losalamos.com/). We meet in the high school stadium parking lot at 5:15, ready to ride at 5:30. There's even a club party after the ride tonight.

So I didn't actually pee my pants. Sorry for that visual

Debating on whether or not to bring the big easy up. Yea, I'll bring it. If I don't then it will surely rain on us. Are fires allowed at Camp May?? I'll pick up some firewood along the way...

Trailhead is 1000 higher in elevation than FR70. Roberts route is fine. I just like EBT better. I would rather ride singletrack.

Greg, I'll be in town all day tomorrow. I'm missing both GITA rides to do some much needed trail work. Your welcome to join me on the ride and your more than welcome to hitch a ride to Pajarito on Saturday morning.

so I gain an hour. There is a chance that if I feel like driving all night, I will just head to SF. and then do the RR ride. I really want to do that, but havent made up my mind if I should put myself through that or not.

Sunday 9/27 shorter option, Winsor/Borrego/Burn/ Winsor

If you can't make SBT, consider this shorter intermediate ride; We start in Tesuque at the trailhead, ride up Winsor to Borrego, up Borrego & down Bear Wallow. Back down Winsor to Chamisa, up Chamisa to the ridge, up Serpentine to BURN TRAIL and back down to Winsor and to Tesuque. Brews & Lunch at the TV Market.

Total distance about 14 miles, with just under 3000' cumulative climbing. Fall
colors, lots o lil' stream crossings. (I rate this whole effort equal to KOM.)

Meet in Tesuque at Winsor trailhead, ready to ride at 10:00 am, on Sunday Sept. 27.

Even shorter, Option B with some fall colors, is to just do the Winsor/Borrego/Bear Wallow loop and back down for 11 miles and ~2000'.
