    G I T A Friday Rio En Medio + Ravens Ridge

It's still on. A NM classic.

Plan is to meet at the intersection of SR592 and Bishops Lodge Road at 9:30. Take either the first Tesuque exit and drive through Tesuque or take the second Tesuque exit (past the flea market exit), #172.

We'll park a vehicle in En Medio and shuttle to Aspen Vista. Climb from there on a dirt road for 5 miles to the top of the ski area and descend Ravens Ridge to the ski area parking lot. We'll continue to descend to Rio En Medio to the vehicle at En Medio.

Total climb is a bit more than 2000 feet. Total descent is 5300. I think the total mileage is about 14-15 miles. YMMV.

Are there going to be enough GITA attendees to have two XC rides on Friday?
Can you compare the two rides for me in terms of techy fun factor?

REM + RR has much more tech than East Fork/Battleship, and is a much longer ride in general.

thanks Andy. Sounds like my kind of a ride, but considering that I'll have the dogs in tow and need a secure place to leave them, I will probably stick to the later (and shorter) Battleship ride. Hope to see you some time over the weekend!

I would be on this ride, *if* I didn't have to drive from PHX. as it is, I'll be hard pressed to get to battleship by 1pm. I'll have to miss RR again.

    have fun.

I've done REM 8 times this year:
    Shuttle 3
    Shuttle 1 to clear downfall.
    Shuttle 2
    Shuttle 2

I'll pass up BS/EF to ride REM anytime. If time allows, I'd like do RR+REM and return to shuttle REM from the ski area a second time.

What kind of requirements do you have for doggie-daycare?

Since when did Need have anything to do with this?

RR-REM is about 10000000000000000000000 times better than E.fork/battelship.

RR-REM is a truly epic and tech ride. E Fork is just nice and short.

if you could do either you'd be silly to skip rr-rem.

Total mileage is 18 miles. You climb a total of 3200' and descent IS close to 5300'

I was kind of wondering that when Greg told me that he had 6" (in Taos) at his house this morning. Ah well...

Six rode. Ran into a bit of winter wonderland on the climb up.

Cut out Deception Peak as there was too much snow up there and did a hike-a-bike

Things got better near the fence.

No snow on REM though. Standard pictures were taken.

I had an excellent time. Good strong group. Next time we need to load Brian up with more beer for the climb up.

Thank you Bruce for a most excellent ride!!! Sure I was suffering on the climbs and in the cold (SNOW?) but I wouldn't change a thing.. it was my favorite GITA ride! Hope to do it again soon and nail those switchbacks...

Glad you had a good time as I love to show people new trails. Thinking back on it, we should have bailed on the RR at the beginning and tried to get two runs in on REM. Once we hit the ski resort and REM, the weather was perfect. As to the switchbacks, I've ridden that trail for years and have yet to clean them all the way.

I'm planning on showing a few other people RR this weekend as the snow seems to have melted.

No way! riding RR in the snow might have been the highlight of the trip! although GC was right there with it.

Can you come back in January? I'm sure we can find a bunch of "highlights" for you then.
