    Angelleta Fire Weekend (2009 edition)

I'm already planning on doing this again next year

What a great weekend! 12hr endurance DH race Fri/Sat and one heck of an epic XC/Big Mtn ride on Sunday. I was exhausted last night and still couldn't go to sleep due to all of the adrenaline still pumping through my veins.

I know everyone had a great time and the Burner, but there were probably few peeps that "really" enjoyed Sunday as much as the Bandos. We headed up to a spot near Cumbress Pass that Von, Crux, and myself scouted last year. It's actually the Chama river head waters in the Archuleta Valley. Basically, your in the valley below the CDT. The expanse of that valley reveals itself as your climbing through.

Anyway, it was just RCC, delnorte, and I for this ride. notaknob had better things to do I guess

Here are the pics that I have posted so far...

About 6.5 hrs. I think Rotmilky has the tracks with all the details from last year.

May be your last chance this week.

About 5 miles north of Chama, there is a dirt road on the left (going west). Make a left here. You will know because there is a wooden arch that leads to a private residence on the left. Follow the dirt road for 5.5 miles. Park here where all of the horseman/quads park. From here take off north and make your way up through the valley following a myriad of cow tracks. You will start to head up a canyon. It's tough going for few miles ( a mixture of really steep climbs and flowy ST. After about three miles you will hit a DT. If you miss it and start going towards the valley below your going the wrong way. Stay up high and to your left. Once on the DT its smooth sailing. Another 4 miles or so and you pop out at a debris field. You can climb up and over here or go around it and catch some more fantastic views. Once over the debris field the trail spreads out and is tough to follow for a few miles, but just stay vigilant.

Von has GPS tracks, but the first time I did it, it required quite a bit of exploring. From your front door to the TH is about 1.5 hrs.

Arriving in heaven... (keg of Bruce's REM Ale in tow)

    Gettin' started.

    Lots of climbing to do...

Did I say Climbing? I meant PUSHING... thru serious steeps & plenty of it!

    And Ramon goes DOWN!

    Waterfall

    LOTS of climbing left...

    Ramon & Bryan diggin' deep.

    Pushing again...

    More climbing...

    Break time!

Ramon, like the smooth latin stud that he is, brings wine!
Ramon workin' hard again... he's had a long weekend.

Views to die for... and SNOW!

    To be continued...

    Scha-weeeet.

Dunno about '10, but one year it's going to be all about AZ spring and NM fall, or maybe all at once, hard to day, but I got to get me some of that sometime!

Somebody else wants to go ridin'!

This is the entire face of a cliff that fell from several hundred feet above...

We had to climb over the fallen cliff debris at the bottom.

    Found some natural huckin' spots!

    Just beautiful...

Bryan eats sh!t on a log roller.

    Then gets it!

    then gets another!

    Ramon divin' in...

    Pushing... again!

Pu$$ie-cat is afraid to get his feet wet...

    Headin' home...

    Darn good weekend, fellas!

Yep that was a LOT of climbing... pushing... but it was well worth it. And we did it on the same bikes that we did the Burner on. Gotta love it.
Best thing is, it was a two-fer - I found a peak that I'm going to come back to ski! Can't beat that. I'm still basking in the afterglow of that ride.
