    Northern NJ Trails?

Hey guys, Currently I've been riding in the DE/PA/MD area at White Clay Creek State Park at college for the past month or two. I'm going to be going home to Northern NJ (Nutley.. Right outside of Newark.. Near Wayne/Totowa, etc) for a week soon.

Wondering if there are any decent beginner/intermediate XC/Singletrack Trails I can hit up when I'm home. Any reccomendations? Thanks guys

Ryan forgot to list Stewart State Forest in Newburgh- Home of the DarkHorse 40. Loads of fun and only 40 minutes from Wawayanda.
It's ALWAYS funny when it happens to somebody else

youre in nutley? small world, same here

anyways, right up in montclair there are some good trails..not supposed to go there, but eagle rock and mills reservation is alot of fun and very close, a 15 minute ride on the bike to the trailhead

on monday evenings, the montclair bikery organizes rides at about 6:15, you should show up next week

ok i just took a spin around mills reservation. not bad... nice to know theres a place to ride without:

    strapping bike to car,
    locking bike,
    throwing gear into car,
    driving,
    unloading car/unlocking bike,
    getting geared up,
    riding.

i found a trailhead right at highland park where it overlooks the montclair pool, probably not the best way in i guess...

yeah that trailhead is a tough hikeabike straight up. whats nice about mills is that you can go further than you think, the trails lead into the reservoir forest area, and are alot of fun there too

Its always good to see a shop organize a ride on trails that are closed.

i have mixed feelings about that. while i do think its rediculously unfair to ban mtbs, law's the law..but i will be sneaking in a ride every now and then. guess that makes me a criminal.

The shop is trying to cash in on the local mountain bikers regardless of the trail legality; can't blame 'em for trying to make a buck God forbid if someone gets hurt or something happens on the trails; it'll set back the attempts to regain trail access in Essex County years.

I agree with you. I'm probably looking at the big picture and not the shop's check book. I'll get off of the soap box now.
