Never done a race before...what should I know?

Thinking of doing the race at Jungle Habitat on the 23rd.
Other than my bike, helmet, a camelbak and money, what should I bring?

The paper I got from Campmor says 7 mile loop and Beginners do 1 lap.
Are there lots of hills or not? Rocks or smooth?

    Please fill me in...

    Thanks.

Alot of it is climbing, most of the course is tight single track there is some roads though.Go to MTBNJ.com there is rides almost every night this week and a few on the weekend. I'm hitting Friday night and Sunday afternoon. the Chainstretcher showed how bad my climbing legs were.
It's ALWAYS funny when it happens to somebody else

Bring an extra $5 for a one-day racing license. Dress light. That's it.

Your first race will be tough but a blast. Try to ride there once or twice beforehand. Knowledge of the trails can make a big difference. But don't sweat it too much -- just go and have fun! You'll most likely bite the racing bug and finish out the '07 H2H calendar!

as far as i know there is one significant climb. the trail is mostly loamy dirt the kind you find when you rake away leaves that have been there for years. There are these lil dips some downed trees, no higher than mid-shin level. Alot of switchbacks on the trail that goes the perimeter of the parking lot and some raised rock sections in low lying areas that are well placed but be careful the rocks are loose. From what i hear the race starts/finishes up by the parking lot. Alot of different trail surfaces..old access roads, washed out access roads, singletrack.
