Winter vacation for MTB in Vegas?

This March my wife and I are looking to take a week trip to someplace in the US, where we can mountain bike, and where it will be at least a bit warmer.

Vegas is a consideration as travel cost and hotel rates seem relatively low, and we expect it'll be warmer there than most other places in the US.

She will rent a bike there and I plan to ship mine if I can find a bike store in Vegas to accommodate.


We won't be doing much of the typical Vegas scene, but rather spend most of our time out in the desert and hills biking and hiking. I'm a very far north east person who lives with constant wet, ice, and snow and think this sort of trip would be nice.

It looks like there would be enough biking to make it worth out while.

Good call. I moved here soley for the riding, which was also a good call. You should consider staying at the Red Rock casino, as it is nice place and close to two trail networks, Cottonwood and Cowboy trails. Chris at the Bike Outpost in Blue Diamond is a good man and I think he would help you out on the bike.

Advice on where we should stay, so that we are close to trails, bike shops, and/or shuttles is good.

We don't need to stay at a fancy place, not that my wife would complain if we had to.

(the President stays here when he comes to town). its close to redrock, cowboys, bears best, and cottonwood trails. You can have your bike shipped to the shop and rent a bike for the Mrs. The Element/Las Vegas cyclery offers package discounts. Plus the Element has the best continental breakfast in town. And the shop offers free group rides on a daily basis from the shop (check the web site and calendar. Doesn't get any easier than this.

Red Rock casino can be very pricy, especially if you're staying through a weekend. While I do agree that there is great trails on the west side of town (my fav being Cowboy which don't really see a ton of use) I would elect to stay close to boulder city. There are plenty of casinos and hotels in Henderson to stay at, just check rates and distance to the trails. You could even stay at Railroad Pass casino (little seedy but who cares) and literally bike a few hundred feet to trails that connect into Bootleg Canyon. If you brought 160 travel bikes you could run some of the downhill in Bootleg too! Depends what you're into, but bootleg are my favorite trails in the area. Just my $.2..

The Element looks like a sweet place to stay. How is it connected to LV Cyclery? Like literally "connected" or they have some kind of special deals if you rent from LV Cyclery or are doing one of their tours or something?
