Trail vandals? Hikers on a MTB Trail? WTH are you saying?

Oh wait, I get it, someone sanitized the rock garden.

    That sucks.

I really don't get it. I'm trying to think what kind of user would spend the time and effort for this kind of unauthorized and purely dumb trail work. Maybe a different kind of user wants to poach these trails? There are nice white signs all over Bootleg that say "HUMAN POWER ONLY". The sign that was taken at the bottom basically says that it is illegal to modify the trail.

For those not familiar with this section, it was the little rock garden section on POW that starts after you cross the paved RMT and as you make a left. Multiple rocks with few inches sticking above the surface of the trail. Either you pick a line through the rocks or go over them.If you notice in the pictures a lot of these rocks are bowling ball sized but with only a small part sticking out.

If mountain bikers did this, they should be ashamed of themselves. I've seen little kids on 12-16-20 inch bikes ride through this section. Anything from a full DH bike to a SS rigid to even a cyclocross bike have been on this section of trail.

I don't see why a hiker or trail runner would do something like this too. Part of hiking/ trail running is getting over the obstacles not getting rid of the obstacles.

If anybody happens to see any illegal trail modifications call Boulder City PD (702) 293-9271 or contact the trailmaster Dan Haskin via All Mountain Cyclery. A person with just a rake usually is just doing trail maintenance, anything more than they are up to nothing good.

Hey man, thanks for the clarification. I would have said maybe they didn't know any better, but the sign theft lead me to believe vandals had a hand in it. Perhaps they may be dumb enough to brag about it and get caught.

    Take care.

Hey Ed before we ran into you and the wifey that morning David, Dorian and I seen a Mtn Biker pulling a small enclosed trailer behind his bike. Judging by the sound of the stuff bumping around in that thing it definitely could have been trail tools or not. He passed by us near the off camber rock where Girlie meets Mother. He was headed in the POW/Mother direction.

I was riding their today and I thought it was actually easier with the rocks present.

If someone did not, want to hike, run or ride that section they could walk around it.

When I was leaving Bootleg today from the restrooms around 11 I saw a white pickiup
with a mtn bike and a little bicycle trailer in the bed of the pickup?

If you look at this picture, you can see three white rocks that were dug up along with a big one that shows the white part that was in the ground while the dark part was protruding above the trail.

If someone wants to make something easier in their mind, why don't they build a go around.
This way the obstacle remains for a challenge.?????

It was like that early Saturday morning, 6/30, when I went through there. It's been at least a couple of years since we have had this same discussion about other "trail sanitation" at Bootleg.
If they did not like this section, their next target may be the last mile of Caldera through the lava field.

I hope they don't touch that last section through Caldera.

I seriously suggest we post signs at both trail heads that say, "DO NOT ALTER TRAILS, BLAH BLAH BLAH SOMETHING OFFICIAL SOUNDING" or can we contact the city about posting signs, hell I'd be willing to pitch in to pay for them if it's an issue. I'm a graphic designer by trade if be willing to prepare the signs for the printers for free.

    John,
I remember those discussions and the ones also associated with Cottonwood.

I also know that section you're talking about. It took my wife a couple of tries to learn how to ride it years ago but that just shows everything is rideable at Bootleg as long as you have the patience and determination to practice it.

    Paul,

The last picture of my first post had that kind of official sign you're talking about. But now it's missing. There is another one near the restrooms.

    Motorcycles Too! WTF??!!

I noticed fresh motorcycle tracks today.

If you run into anyone on a motorcycle just call Boulder City PD. I argued with a guy on a motorcycle a couple of years ago. I pointed to the signs like below.

I agree first of all motors should not be allowed on those trails, second the city should clear off those rocks it is a complete hazard. The one rock you photographed looked like a meteor though :>

Seriously? You hate rocks? You know all the trails are filled with them, right? Road bking has less rocks, more speed.

@ED: Just saw those pics you posted...that's sad. that section isn't even hard. I wish
they'd leave at least bootleg alone.
