2013 Fears Tears and Beers
The date is set for the 7th annual FTB Enduro. Saturday June 15th in Ely NV.
This is North America's first and still best mountain bike Enduro race.
We have some new things planned and it should be a stinking good time!
Be there or be square! And remember all proceeds go to benefit trails and trail building in the beautiful Great Basin.

Darn. We'll miss you guys. (Of course I'm sure it's going to be way too hot to be taking kids out for an event that time of year even if they are Diamond Kids)

Not sure yet, but last year it was $40 which included one free raffle ticket, a FTB pint glass (first fill up is free as well), and a free after race feast. May be a little more this year but we haven't discussed it yet. Even at that it would be the best bang-for-your-buck of any enduro race I know of.

So where is the best place to stay for this race? Do most racers camp or stay somewhere local?
-
The Jailhouse hotel casino is great and usually offers discounts to racers. They are also one of our main sponsors and host the after-race dinner.

Where can I get more info on the race? The facebook page is useless. There's not even a link to register. The one in Krobs post above works, but it is just registration, no information. The Great Basin Trail Alliance website has no information at all about the 2013 event. I'd like to bring my whole family, but I need to know more about what's going on as different people would likely sign up for different categories.

I'm pretty sure that the categories are listed on the registration page. Agreed that there is not alot of info other than past attendee's saying how totally awesome the race is. I'm bringing my family also, we are going to stay at the jailhouse casino.

The categories are listed, but there is no more information at all than that. My wife and kids want to know what to expect for the various categories...length of ride, climbing, etc. so they can know what to sign up for. They're not up for a 30 mile ride with 4000 feet of climbing at 8000 ft elevation, but the fun ride category may be just designed for little kids...5 mile ride with 300 ft climbing which would be way too little. If you want to attract more people and have a better race, there needs to be way better advertising. The GBTA website doesn't even have a "Contact Us" link to ask for more info. Please give us more info.

That's exactly what I'm looking for too...more specific info on the race and the categories so we all know what to expect and what to sign up for. I did find a little info on past races, but will it be the same trails, length and climbing??? I already have two rooms reserved, but I don't know what to tell the rest of the gang that is thinking about coming. They may not even come without more info.

Sorry guys. We've been working on getting a new web page designed with more info etc. I know the old one is kinda dated, but the info is the same. Everything on this link appears to be current: Course is the same. Mileage is the same. The only possible difference this year is we may add one more timed section for the pros.
There will be a pro purse again this year. We're working on donations for that from sponsors so not sure what the total will be but thanks to the generousity of the Jailhouse Hotel Casino we already have at least a $2000 cash prize available to disperse.

Thanks Kent! That's the info I was looking for. I didn't realize you were doing all of this in addition to your day job. I've got my hotel reservations and I'm bringing the wife and at least a couple of kids. Two of our other kids may have schedule conflicts, but there could be up to six of us riding...do you have a family rate ? Now I just have to reserve good weather.

Yeah, we're pretty low tech/grass roots compared to some of the other big enduros. No big fancy websites, print ads, or dozens of bike industry sponsors. Just a small club with 4-5 active members (with full-time day jobs)..... but I won't apologize for the quality of the event. Excellent race and fun event. Killer after race meal with some pretty good prizes in the drawings.
You guys will enjoy it. Where are you coming from. How old are your kids?

Coming up from Vegas. I'll have at least 2 of our 6 kids in tow. 15 y/o son and 19 y/o daughter. Two others (24 y/o daughter and 26 y/o son) may come, but their spouses can't, and the other two kids aren't available...college and Army. We're looking forward to it...everything except the elevation that is. I may need to bring my own oxygen.

Is there any goings on during the day to keep the wife and two small kids busy while I race?
-
The race headquarters Start/Finish area is at Broadbent Park which is a cool place to just hang out and we've had a BBQ going in years past but there's no race related activities going on there otherwise. There are some other fun/interesting things to do in Ely including riding a historic steam locomotive train and NNRR museum, Lehman Caves/Great Basin NP, McGill swimming pool, Cave Lake State Park (where you should also plan on riding on the day before or after the race, btw).
