    Mountain Cycle Hate???

    I know every brand has detractors but I am really surprised by the negative emails and FB comments we have received over the inclusion of the Shockwave 2.0 in our Top 5 Interbike impressions.

    Just curious as owners of their product, what type of feedback do you guys receive?

    MC is in my neck of the woods and I have sent them and email so maybe we will be able to do a feature with them an get some first hand impressions.

    We get hate too.
    I get hate on the trails from guys that I can outride on my Fury. Go Figure.
    They insist I need something "up to date" like this one guy's Ibis mojo.

    I tell them "I came from four bars to high forward single pivot, and I'm not ready to go back anytime soon" but they think I'm full of it.

    They don't seem to realize how many things like disk brakes, were things MC pioneered.

    I suspect that I'm getting the same sort of 'hate' when I blow past other FS riders on the downhill sections with my steel hardtail sporting all of 80mm of travel up front. Of course, I don't hang around long enough to chat with them either

    That said, I can't wait to build up the Zen II that I have on order. I just hope that I don't get passed by some dude on a steel hardtail while railing some downhill singletrack!

    I love my mountain cycle. It's nice to have people (even girls) crane their necks to see WTF I'm riding...

    It's a love and hate world. Most people that hate don't ride enough and are too busy updating their FB status to "I'm board". MC is not a company that has appealed to everyone but has a strong background in build products that simply work and work well.

    Don't know if I'd update my ibis szazbo for a mojo. A step backwards IMHO.

    I don't have hate for MC. I had a Fury(fun,fun bike) and cracked the swing arm so I moved on to something else. I just wonder why not just improve the Fury? A carbon front, maybe, and beefed up rear, lighter stronger.

    As far as the Zen II and San Andeas 2.0,What's up with the mystery cranks and Angle Set?

    Thanks for keeping it real.

    I can everyone MC needed to get some fresh product out in the market, they got a-lot of "Oh the same old"... A carbon Fury (I think someone is doing that...) but I get the point why not take something that works great and make it better....You would be amazed on the production side of what it takes for small changes with small companies requesting small runs of product. In essence the Zen II is the old Fury (I have had a few conversations with Fury owners on spec and geo and the numbers are really close). The ZenII believe it or not will, pedal awesome, be stronger and stiffer, and allow you the end user to be limitless in build and component spec.

    Carbon... I crash so it's not for me. You can actually build a light, strong, cheap frame from AL, but it's going to be round tubes and nobody wants that, so we all start bending, forming and manipulating materials to get the fun stuff on the market today. Do get me wrong the Carbon stuff out there today is AweSome and MC may head down that path but I'd just have to be more carful personally and that would take away from my "fun fun fun" bike. I ride the 26and6 as my XC training bike and just can't imagine what would happing if I slipped on a rock and jacked it up. Who knows what the future holds..........

    Angle Set: Everyones Opinion of what HT˚ is correct... is correct. We like our bikes set up for us. Who is MC (or any other company or mag) to tell you what angle is the best for you. So now you can tune the bike for your riding style.

    I recently built up a new SC Superlight(1x9 with F120) as my trail bike. It has round tubes,but SC has been refining that design for many years. It is a simple, easy to maintain bike that seems pretty durable.

    I understand the function of the Angle Set, but I know people who have destroyed them and they share my "riding style". Can I run a regular headset on a Zen II? What do I do when I need parts for that crank? Why no ISCG tabs (can I even use a chain guide) if it has unlimited build potential? I'm sure many other riders had these same questions.

    I was intrigued when I saw the pics of the ZenII but they lost me with that crank. Also, I could not find the weight of the frame on the site.

    Hey Big Rocks,
    Your spot on your SC a nice simple designed 4" XC bike that looks really nice. Very Clean.

    The headset spec for the ZenII is a Tapered 1 1/8" top 1 1/5" bottom so yes you can run traditional headsets if you wish. I can say after installing and uninstalling a dozen or so AngleSet headsets that you want to take your time and do them right. 2 of the 12 that I have done are in use and performing very well. I have yet to "destroy" one but I'm sure CC would be happy to and look into it if it was a factory defect and replace it.

    The BB on the ZenII is a PF30. So you can run any PF30 cranks or insert an adapter to run a traditional english threaded BB. If you need parts for the crank or BB you can contact MC directly or goto the manufacture at Praxis Works (for Chain Rings and M35BB) and TURN (for the cranks). FYI the bearings are very common

    ISCG 05 is not on limited edition ZENII (the first batch of numbered frames) so they be lighter . Production has not landed but the frames are very stiff (like MC bikes should be) and will be comparable in weight class (not a super light but 5.5" aggressive trail).

    MC will also be at Fontana next weekend Oct 29-30 at the Southridge USA races if anyone wants to check it out.
