Yes, that is a chain tensioner for the vertical drop-outs (a Surly Singlator in "push up" mode). It's actually working fantastic.

The Comp DS is ridden about once every 4 months. It's a nice bike, but I'm really not into big, full suspension bikes with tons of gears - it's heavy (33 lbs), and I hate messing with lock-outs and u-turn adjustments. In fact, I ride my 29'er and my Pake 'Cross bikes the most (below) which are both rigid. For MTB riding, I like single-speed rigids. I'm much faster on the climbs and the descends are not bad. The components on the DS are great except for the wheels, which are old-school loose ball bearing hubs. Plus, I had to resort to "ghetto tubeless" for the rims to seal (Stan's strips didn't work).

If I know I'm going to be hitting some major rough terrain and little climbing, I will take out the Comp DS. Otherwise, my SS 29'er does it all. Climbing on the Comp DS is an unfortunate task.
Ha, I was actually joking about the derailleur on your Fantom Comp DS. With all those single speed bikes it just seemed out of place. I love my Fantom Team and have even won races on it (toot-toot!...disclaimer: >35 Beginner Category) but now I only ride it occasionally (now fitted for my wife) and my SS gets most of the love...still, it is a great bike and I appreciate it whenever I take it for a spin.
    Again, nice rides.

Sorry to hear that Fred. I can relate to a finacial squeeze with my wife quitting her job to be a stay at home mom. Start planning you next bike purchase/build now for when the $'s start rolling again

I ride it every day! Best thing I've ever purchased!

Mostly through local horse trails... though I've never seen a horse on them.

Daily commute to work of about 2 miles, half dirt, half paved path.

    New Hoops

Got a new set of hand built wheels, so I thought that deserved a few more pictures!

Much lighter and responsive than the stock wheels!

Nice teaser shot of the GTO!

Here's my 'Becane. It's an awesome bike, even if the cornering performance brings some suck. I suspect that the problem is a 29er thing...

We're going to find out, 'cause there's a new ti Motobecane 29 in the mail with my name on it, heading West right now- woo hoo! I'll post pics when I get it, of course- should be here Saturday or Monday. later

That's like putting a bag over your girlfriend's face... just dump her.

...and quoting the picture that's directly above... what's that like?

I'll obscure the branding on any device of mine that I want to, unless I'm being paid to advertise it, thanks. Leave my girl out of it and I won't point out your shortcomings, what?
