Just took delivery of my newest addition to the bike corral 2 days ago via the brown truck of happiness..
I picked this one up off of bikesdirect sister companys' site bikeislanddotcom. It was listed as having some minor scuffs on the rear drops and stays and offered a $50 savings due to the imperfections. I had been looking to pick up a 29er for this coming dirt season. Having purchased several bikes from bikes direct I pretty much knew what I was getting into.
Here's what I got for my $350...
A very nicely drawn and welded 29er frame that looks like it will take a thrashing. A thrashing wjll be duely applied.
A cheapo doublewall disc only wheel set with some no name ridiculously heavy wire bead tires. A SR Suntour X3 boat anchor fork with a mechanical lockout. Acera rear derailleur/Suntour front with EF shifter/lever combo and Tektro Novela mechanical discs. The crank set is also a Suntour unit. The bar, stem and seatpost are all no name clunky alloy units.. heavier, but sturdy looking nonetheless.
All in all, a rideable bike. My 18" frame was probably 32 pounds out of the box. I had some parts in my swag box that promptly found their way to this awesome looking frameset. First things to go were the Suntour fork for a Salsa Cromoto grande, the stem, bar and seat post for Easton bits.. FSA for the seatpost (not pictured) The no name wheels were changed out in favor of a set of WTB speed disc all mountains.
The stupid heavy chinese tires were crap canned for a set of GEAX Saguaros. I also slapped on a Shimano Deore rear derailleur.
I have a set of Avid levers and Alivio shifter pods on route from Amazon.
