    Rotec RL9 - modern "Straight-9"

I thought this would be ok to post here in the Schwinn forum since there is a lot of love for the Lawwill bikes here and there is no Rotec forum here.

I assume most of you are aware of the modern Lawwill bikes that Rotec is making? Has anyone ridden or even seen one of these? I'd love to try one. Shwinn8, this has your name on it.

Here are some pictures I cribbed from a Ridemonkey thread. Thread:

I'm a big fan of the black rear triangle on suspension bikes, and I love bright blue bikes, so the Rotec above is super sweet for me. I'd love to ride that bad boy.

I believe that the rear shock placement is closer to what Mert had in mind when he first designed the rear suspension of his bikes. Notice how the shock is mounted behind the seat tube, just as on double A-arm auto suspesion. Mert had to drive the shock differently on the 4 bangers and straight 6s due to construction technique limitations and the dimesions of true rear shocks. I've got a pic of Mert with one of the original 4 bangers (from MBA) that shows a damper (it wasn't even a shock) attatched to the chain-stay and the back of the seat tube and it pivoted around the bottom bracket. This bike had a Campy hub brake because disk brakes were just a pipe dream back then.

Yes, the concentric BB pivot is definitely like Mert intended. Great pic, Joe. Any chance you could scan that one of Mert and the proto 4B?

it's geometry is comparable to the '01 straight 8 the rotec's stand over height is a bit taller but over all not much of a huge difference

Joe, I'm surprised that bike doesn't yet have the Lawwill Leader fork on it. I have some pics of those bikes as well. Cool stuff, thanks.

Shwinn8, it would be cool to ride the two together and see what differences there are.

I'm guessing it is this, from the website:

    cool thread!

Hey CTB, much love for starting this thread up!

As you figured out thats a mount for the Hopey steering damper.
We are the the only mfg to offer this mount to date.

If you chose to run the hopey the install is a breeze, no bearing cup to remove and re-install.

Check out the NEWS page on our site (roteccycles.com) for the latest videos of the 09's in action!

    Lets keep this thread going!

Admin, can we get Rotec listed on the "Mfg forum"?

I'd like to invite questions from those who are interested in the RL9, those who just love Lawwill's and of course a
shout out to all RL9 owners to hangout and post pics their rides!!

Sully, good to see you in these parts! Nice to have manufacturers around. I'm relatively new to the Lawwill game, but I really enjoy the handling of the ones I have.

Have you guys ever considered a 4.5- or 5-inch version of the RL9? Maybe it still can't be done to Mert's original ideas like you have on the RL9 (concentric pivot, shock mounting, etc) for competitive weight, but a modern XC Lawwill would be something that isn't out there right now. Tough economy to be trying new products, though.
