Here is mine: stock setup ecept for the SR Suntour fork, Mavic 138 Rims laced to Shimano hubs, Aheadset SR headset, stem and saddle. Getting a new Zokes Nitro fork (100mm travel) and sometime down the line next year some deore disc brakes with deore disc rims laced to sun rhyno lite rims. Might even get some Panaracer Fire XC Pro tires with yellow sidewall to brighten the ride up. This is not my main ride. Actually I ride a Kona most of the time. But this is my first "True" full suspension bike - Every other one I have owned was a department store bike. :p

Great!!! A very comfortable ride. It has very active rear suspension and does suffer from some pedal bobbing on climbs. But it certainly makes up for it when the trail turns downward
    :p .
I may in the future try a SPV rear shock and see how that goes. For now I'm just enjoying the ride.

    Here are my two Schwinns...
I put my white brothers fork back on my Rocket 88. Got rid of the MX Comp fork. Otherwise no real updates for my main ride. Pacific Bikes did send me a new rear derailler hanger for free and a new upper rocker arm (small fee). They're helping me keep my Schwinn and my Mongoose pro alive for a few more seasons. Not sure what I'll do when they eventually die. I've got 2 spare ICBM headsets (thanks Cane Creek) on standby since they may be hard to find in a few more years.

My other Schwinn is a roadie Schwinn Fastback. Sadly stuck in my laundry/storage room on a trainer for now. Needs a new headset. Luckily, it's not an ICBM but a IS headset.

My other bikes are a 2003 Dakar XLT with a White Brothers VT1.3 20mm fork and a 2003 Giant AC 1 with a Z1 FR up front.

I'd really like to ad a straight six to my stable but few can be found in decent shape these days without spending an arm and a leg. I need those to keep riding.

This is the only pic I have of the older (to me ) PU. This one was lacking most of the decals. Similar build to the other one, SS with 32X18 gearing and a Surly fork instead of a Kona P2. These are sweet riding bikes that I have ridden a lot of miles on with no issues as of yet. If you can find one at a reasonable price grab it, they only made around 200 or so frames.

If you need a new ICBM headset or bearings, check with Cane Creek. They're the only ones that actually makes new ones for the 2001 Schwinns. Talk about a limited market share. I can't imagine that they sell too many of them since the ICBM was used 1 year by one manufacturer on a few models.

where did you end up getting the spring? What rate did you get?

I played with the spring length on my straight six for a bit. The original spring I had was about a 1/2 inch too long and steepened my head angle too much. Any problems with your set up?

    Have fun.

This shock works great, and what a deal $62 total! I actually got this spring form my lbs for $30. It's a Mountain speed by Eibach spring 600 bls x 50 mm in a cool blue color. A replacement for a fox shock. The spring is a little long and steepened the head tube angle, but I'm also running a longer fork than before too. on climbs the front end wants to wander a bit,but it's not too bad, the major difference is stand-over height, and saddle height. I could always lock down the Marathon to climb (ETA) but I rarely do. At first I had the spring preloaded a lot so that the spring would not hit the bottom of the seat tube, but the shock would top out harshly and not acheive full travel. Then I started fooling around with rotating the spring so the seat tube would be between the coils of the spring and I could use way less preload. That was the ticket! I may have to grind down the bottom of the seat tube to further adjust the preload, though.

Thanks for your help in spring selection and your further interest. We'll keep these old dogs rolling! (just bought a 15" frame for spare parts)

    My 1997 Homegrown Straight 6!
I usually post on the Giant boards, but have recently had time to take pics of my old Schwinn. I have had her for almost 10 years which is forever in the mtn bike world. I have gone through atleast 4 XC bikes in that time. Over the years, I have made some modifications. In 1998 I replaced the 4 inch RockShox DHO(that was the only commercially available DH fork of the day in 1997) with at Boxxer (6in). Back in 2002 I scored a Pro-deluxe pull shock (2.75 instead of the Coupe Deluxe 2.0) off of a destroyed Yeti DH-8 and it totally works. The travel is somewhere between 6 and 7 inches, if I had to guess. I had to dial the trunion mount all the way down on the shock for it to fit. This pushed the swing arm all of the way down and raised the BB to15 inches. So, I built a 24in rim for the rear and the BB is now at a respectable 14 inches. Almost all of the stickers have come off, but the finish is still sparkly (Bass Boat Blue). I have raced it all over the Southeast and I always get comments about how old it is. I occasionally see riders younger than the bike and they don't believe me. I hope to have it for many years to come.

Yes those are the original Hope C2 brakes, 185mm in the front and 140mm in the back.

This is the stock photo, but I have since added a GPS and carbon fiber handlebars. I need to take a glamour photo of it.

I got this bike for a steal on ebay a few months ago to serve as my winter ride. The geometry fit me so well and was so comfortable I decided to go with some upgrades. The major ones so far have been the Rock Shox Revelation Fork (Awesome by the way),XT front and rear Derailleurs, and Avid Juicy 7's. I installed the bashguard for extra clearance. My third chainring kept getting caught on things here in the rocky, rooty New England terrain.....here's the pics.

    My old Early 90's schwinn

This bike took it all for about 10 years with no problems at all. Too bad they dont make them like this any more. These are the last few pictures of it before retierment

I don't think disc brakes would have helped in that situation in the first pic!

No need for brakes that is at the bottom of a fairly large extreemely loose sand down hill. Takes a good bit of practice to make it down and the creek is the reward. Before fourwheelers found the trail you could jump the creek but now its either ride a 6' sewer pipe (not really an option), or put the bike on the back and give it a ride as you wade across.

2001 Homegrown Pro. This was the last model year and one of the last ones I could find anywhere in the US after Schwinn was bought by Pacific.

I rode the crap out of it for four yrs after buying a new bike a year or so ago. Just in the last couple months I've resurrected the Schwinn for winter riding / cross racing. I just put 1.5" tires and disc brakes on it. What an awesome bike. I'm really glad I'm riding it again. I'm seriously considering putting some cash into a good wheelset and Fox fork to really get this bike in prime condition for some serious riding again.

    RIP quality Schwinns
Nice to see all the sweet Schwinns still around. I knew about the Homegrowns being very quick and light but not how cool the longer travel stuff was! Anyway, here's my 2001 Homegrown Comp. Stock here but I put some carbon risers on it. Always torn between this one and my Bianchi Denali (steel, Marz MXR...) For everyone that has experience with the Homegrown/Marzocchi combo, check my other thread. I was thinking about switching off the Judy Race for my Bianchi's 2002 MXR Air. The Judy is smoother, but heavier and flexier too.

A lilttle difficult run action for the NoVA folks... I really need to take some pics of the great trailage down here in the Shenandoah Valley. Sorry for the poor pics I'll get better

I picked this up for 20 bucks a few weeks ago!

1995 Schwinn - almost like new old stock. Everything is original on it and barely used - maybe someone rode it around the street or something but that's about it.

I had that exact bike just a different color. It had a ton of miles on it and treated me real well. I think I paid $500 new in 95 or 96. Good find for $20.00 enjoy!
