Thanks for the information. Just like raf82, I am located in Europe. So it was smooth to order from the bay. No intercontinental calls, no minding the time zone, online payment, free shipping. The origin is the same: Tange Seiki.

Anyway, shortage of ICBM aheadsets seems to have an end, for now.

I bought it from a guy in Idaho (whom I still email occasionally). The bike is now in Singapore while I am in Connecticut and have just acquired another 1999 4 Banger Homegrown frame which I aim to build.

Depending on how things pan out, however, I may cherry pick parts from both frames to build one good frame. The Straight 6 was a bit smaller than is comfortable for me so I may just mate the Homegrown front triangle to the Straight 6 rear.

This is how it looked like when I got it:

Nice. I have an '01 S6 and a 99 4B. The rear is the same on both with the exception of graphics. I also have a '00 4B. Again, same rear suspension system. The 99 4B is very nice, just be careful with the lower swing arm. That year had a pinch bolt to hold the bearing. If over tightened, it will fail. The torque setting is in inch/pounds not foot/pounds. You can google the correct torque. I will post it to this thread in a day or so.

I have a 99 Homegrown 4 Banger NOS frame. Trying to decide how to build it....or maybe keep it as wall art.

I bought a 99 4 Banger All Mountain recently only to find out that it had a crack on the upper swing arm pinch bolt fitting....a frame killer. I've also seen the lower pinch bolts crack. Here is a chart of torque values...in inch pounds.

    2000 4 Banger-Built for my Daughter

This was the find of the year. I was surfing CL and came across this 2000 4 Banger (15") in Kansas City for a GREAT price. It was an All Mountain version with a SID rear shock. All I got was the frame the shock and a clapped out fork. The fork went in the parts bin and the shock went for repairs. I put a RS Deluxe Coil shock on and then emptied my good parts box out to build it up. It is still a bit rough but this is the least expensive 4 Banger I have built so far. Now if I can just get my daughter to master the bunny hop.....

Here is my 1999 moab 3. Just replaced it this year with a rocky trailhead 29er. Took it for a 40km ride today, i have to say even tho i sit way more hunched over its still an awesome bike, scrubbed my pedal alot more on the trail but i can actually get behind my seat for steep descents without dropping the saddle like i need to with the rocky. I put halo twin rails on it for commuting, super quiet and fast. Did really good on the trail but had a little trouble with some mud and grass.

I have to say that judy fork is crap, would love to replace it with an air i can adjust and a shut the valve off.

Try putting a 100mm fork up front. It does good stuff to the geometry, and you'll be less hunched over.

    Schwinn Rocket 88

This is my 2000 or '01 (not 100% sure on the year) Schwinn Rocket 88. I acquired it for free from a friend who didn't ride it anymore. I've since grit blasted the frame, cranks, spindles, pedals & painted the frame (custom spray paint) I did some basic maint. chain, cables, etc. & just been rippin' it all summer. Schwinn reborn.

Rocket 88 is a great bike. I bought mine new in 2001. Still have it. I upgraded mine with shimano hollow tech II cranks, a new fork and hydraulic brakes. All bought used on CL. You can have lots of cheap MTB fun with that bike.

It's a 2001. The 2000 model had the lower pivot concentric with the bottom bracket shell.

I'd love to upgrade my front + rear suspension, add disc brakes/wheels. I just don' think it's worth droppin' all that money into it.

Like what you've done to your rocket, add modern tech to an old frame.

Hi all, I'm looking into picking up Rocket Comp frame (5" travel model) to add to my collection of Schwinns. Before I commit to buying it though, I want to make sure I can ride the darned thing. Its a 19" frame, anyone here by any chance know the standover height for a 19? I have a 4" travel model in a 19" that fits me just fine but I'm not sure if the added travel will make it too tall or if they accounted for that when they designed the 5" travel model. Any help is greatly appreciated!

They'll have roughly the same stand over height. Anyway, top tube length is more important that stand over height anyway.
