    New Homegrown, or, my chick rocks!

    Yup, my chick may have just given me the best Christmas present ever! This frame is identical to my first Homegrown ever, which also happened to be my first full suspension bike ever. It's destined to become yet another single speed.

    I've already pulled the Fox Alps 4r rear shock apart, and sure enough, the coil negative spring had snapped in half. Fortunately, the shock body wasn't scored, and I've just ordered some new o-rings for it.

    Sorry for the poor picture, and I'll try and post some better ones once it's back together.

    Most excellent. A tube-framed Sweetspot is one of the Schwinns still on my want list.

    You know, I have the front triangle of a 2gen Homegrown Sweetspot. Perhaps something might be worked out...

    Hey, just the guy I was hoping to run into. Do you know what the BB shell size of a 99 HG SS? I think it's 68

    Nevermind, found it in an other search. Great bike! I will have OEM sid's available soon, if you are interested. 80 mm long travel XC from 99, and a rear 5.5 x 1.25.

    WOOT! Just won an auction on eBay for a Fox Float fork, which was the last part needed. Currently there's a box of parts sitting in the corner, waiting for that last puzzle piece. Hopefully it'll arrive before the weekend.

    It will weigh in under 23 pounds when done.

    Is that a Park Tools shop cat? Maybe Pedros?

    It's an off brand cat. If it were Park it would be blue, and if it were Pedros it would be yellow.

    The bike weighs in at 22.8 pounds, which is quite respectable for full suspension. I took it out for it's first ride yesterday, and aside from needing to modify the fork, it went well.

    nice 1gen control tech made HG. hope you enjoy the ride.

    mine used to look the same way / colors. after taking years of beating i decided to give it make over. fresh paint, fork and shock and collecting NOS control tech components to replace the old ones. so i got back riding it after about 7 years and couldnt believe how much fun it is - who really needs disc brakes, big travel, 29ers, carbon stuff and similiar?

    I really like the ride, and it's exactly what I was looking for. It takes the edge of rougher trails nicely, but still climbs very well. I built up a hybrid Alps 4r/5r shock for it, which is working beautifully. I love the bike immensely.

    My paint job stays though!

    it almost climbs like a hardtail, i agree.

    the only aftermarket shock that fits is the one for the 1st gen cannondale scalpel. i got a fox rl for it.

    Rissie Racing makes a shock which not only fits, but is also the correct 1.25" of travel to give the bike its full 3.75" of travel. However, my hybrid Alps shock works well, and is easy to work on, so I don't really have much desire to upgrade.
