Need help remembering my first mtb.
When i first got into mountain biking i purchased a mongoose from walmart in nc. It was not the typical wallyworld bike. Frame was completely upgradable and components were mid level shimano. I thought it was the xr450 but mine gad a dual crown fork with 20mm thru axle, mech disc brakes and adjustable real coil. It also came with riser bar ends.

What year was the mongoose and was it a front or full suspension frame ?

Full suspension, 20mm thru axle on double crowned fork. Looked like the xr450 but that does not have double crown fork.

It sounded like the XR450 until I looked up what a double crown fork was. I just replaced my XR450 the other day.

Do you have good pics of the xr450? Maybe it did not have double crown but i swore mine did. It was my real start into mtb as as a kid i was all about bmx in the 80s and had a mtb i rode in hs but on the street. After i had the mongoose i purchased my giant ac.

Sure, I still have the bike. I'll take some today and then post them up.

The grips are off because I plan to move them to the replacement bike. It also came with bar ends.

    Was it the same?

Might be. It has 20mm through axle on front and qr on back right. I could have sworn it had a double crown but it might not have. I know I got the giant ac2 after it because of the shock placement and it had a double crown.
I was stationed in Fayetteville when I bought the bike. Also an alumnus of UNC chapel hill.

cool, close to home. I'm about 2 hours from UNC Chapel Hill. I bought the bike from Walmart back in 2001 or 2002. I think I paid around $400 for it at the time. This does have the thru axle in the front all shimano gear. Wasn't a bad bike, just heavy and the suspension was poor.

It's really odd looking at your cabinets because my setup is identical. The cabinets appear to be the same wood color, hardwoods, black oven and toaster all in the same spot.

You probably rode yours more than I rode mine. Mine sat unused until about 8 months ago.
