    2012 mongoose bikes

I just noticed the 2012 mongoose bikes are on the site. They added a 5'' full suspension back to the line up called a "slayton"

I have to say I am not impressed with the pricing. The new Teocali comp is now $2000 MSRP and still comes with a Suntour fork and shock. That is ridiculous!

Word from my shop is that Mongoose Pro (Not Walmart Type) bicycles will NOT be available in the US for the 2012 model year. I do not understand why Cannondale/Pacific has not formally annouced this, but no Mongoose booth at interbike, and shop owner tells me all emails from anyone there only say, "GT/Schwinn"...

Hmmm...I was just considering a leftover Canaan Comp. Any reason I should avoid it?

You wont get any support from mongoose if you buy it. I would still consider it if the components are good and the price is low. Frame bearing sizes are standard on can be found through many sources other then mongoose. Just know that if the frame cracks or breaks, your screwed.

I would give big props to the Canaan! I beat the crap out of mine on all kinds of trails, and it pedals like a champ! make sure you buy one no older than 2009 that is when they swiched frame factories. Older ones had some problems I believe...

    Congrats on the goose

A must upgrade would be the rear shock, get yourself a decent air shock with rebound dampening and maybe compression adjust. Will make a world of difference compared to the coil spring on the sport model. Be patient I found a fox RP23 on eBay for about $100 US.

Next would be the fork. but I am addicted to upgrades.

Its sad to see Mongoose bike for 2012 no longer being available.....My first bike was a Mongoose BMX bike in the early 80's.

My guess is that after years of selling to the Walmarts of america and their name getting associated with the lowend market. It was harder than they amagined to compete in the higher in market with the rest of the bike makers, since sales over the past few years haven't been to their liking and better sales in say europe, they aren't selling the 2012's in America to see if we scream load enough. I've had nothing but praises for my Teocali elite, maybe you don't like a companies sales practices but that's not going to make me sell my bike right a way.

The mongoose website with the in your face graphics make it hard to navigate at times. Anyone else found this to be the case?
