    HPT question

So back when I first started mountain biking in the LaCrosse area while attending UWL from 90 to 94 there seemed to be a lot of hostility toward mountain bikers especially on the area now described as the TNT trail. The trails in other areas a little further to the south didn't seem to get much traffic. Does the HedgeHog area still have trails that area "accessible"?

So my question is, what has changed in the minds of the Hixon forest to allow bikers on the TNT trail?

    some old photos circa 5/1991:
Just ride down there and jump off something for crying out loud...

I don't know the answer to your question, but here is a link to the HPT site. Someone on there may be able to answer for you.

Basically, Hixon Forest people were persuaded by the HPT organization to allow access from town up and down TNT to the newly constructed HPT trails.

The HPT trails located near the "golf ball" radar at the National Weather Service radar station are the only trails that are explicitly legal mountain biking trails. The Hedgehog trails aren't and never were legal in a sense that mountain bikes were explicitly allowed on them. Back then, that's all there were so riders poached them. The situation is much better now.

Next time you're in town, check out the HPT trails. They're much better than any of the trails we used to poach and they're legal!

I always loved cheese curds and burgers from Rudy's drive in.
