Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike trails open, work day planned
The mountain bike trails in the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area officially opened at sunrise on Saturday, March 24.
Use Standard Trail Precautions- Wet trail is closed trail.
Recent rain and thunderstorms melted the remaining snow and ice on the trails, and the Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew Trail Care Team repaired damaged areas, allowing the Crew and DNR to declare the trails ready to ride during daylight hours.
There are still several trail maintenance projects that need to be completed, however, and volunteers are needed to join the Trail Care Team on March 31 for a trail work day.
Portsmouth Campground will be open for overnight camping, free of charge, only to visiting and local Trail Care workers who are lending a hand. The campground will be open to those volunteers the afternoon of March 30 until the afternoon of April 1.
For more information on volunteering, contact Nick Statz, Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew director of trail maintenance, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Trail System | Facebook for up-to-date reports on trail conditions.
The Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike Crew is a division of the Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists and the International Mountain Bicycling Association.
