    Blue Mound 4/18 & 5/9.

    Hi,

I'm making a plea for the next two work days. The current work will probably add weeks of riding time to the park each year and eliminate some of the complaints that riding at Blue Mound is too rough or difficult.

We got a good start to the new bypass for Holy Schist on April 11th.

The bypass will move the trail up out of it's current muddy, rooty h3ll, into the dry goodness of the adjoining hillside.

The Easter Bunny made a brief appearance and dropped off treats for all the good boys and girls who turned out to build it's new hippity-hoppity trail. You missed that, but there is still time to contribute to making a really fine trail on April 18th and May 9th.

    Woo hoo!!!

All signs point to Blue Mound for this weekends trail day. Meet by the garage/shop at 8am to help reroute Holy Schist away from the mud and muck. With a good turnout the reroute just might be able to be wrapped up this weekend. What happens if the reroute gets finished? More great trail in the new Pokerville development! Nothing like a chance to add more miles of trail to an already great park!

Bring some boots, gloves, pants, water and maybe a snack. Heck bring a friend two and get twice as much done.

    See you there!

    Success!

Due to the good volunteer turnout we finished the reroute. A big "thank you" to everyone who chose to spend the day making trail instead of riding. And a beautiful day it was!

On May 9th we will resume work on the new Pokerville loop. We're currently at 0.6 miles on a projected 4 mile trail. Looks intimidating, but that first half mile got made in one big work day. We won't have the luxury of having REI bring in a bunch of volunteers for Trails Day this year, so we have to make this one count.

Pokerville trail is the newest addition to the Blue Mound trail system. It's being built on the rocky south side of the mound, very close to the early Wisconsin settlement it's named after. The layout of the trail is more open (not as tight and twisty as the main loop) and follows the contour where possible. I'm aiming for a fun, fast trail that won't have leg-burning steep climbs like the rest of the park.

Meeting time is 8AM at the park garage. First two lefts, then right as you enter the park. We will be working directly downhill from the parking lot.

Hope to see you out there.

    Walt
