Unfortunately when the warmer weather came a bunch of bozos thought it would be fun to ride Winona. The fun they had left a LOT of ruts. Ruts that I'm sure they won't be helping rake out this spring. Ride when it's frozen and you'll be fine, just be aware that there will be some sketchy places from the ruts.
I rode last weekend and there are two places with trees down across the trail that require a dismount.
Another thing to watch out for are people riding the back side backwards. With less people riding and the foliage gone quite a few of us have been riding backwards just for some variety.
Right on. I've been out riding at Franke a few times in the snow, it was fantastic. I wanted to make it out to Winona but never did and i didn't even make it out last weekend to Franke. Sadly it looks like it's going to warm up again . ....can't wait for some nice hardpack!!
Our Winona trails aren't in real bad condition. There may still be a tree or two down. The main problem now it the freezing and thawing that creates mud. They may be froze in the morning but will get muddy when the sun hits them. Please stay off they they are wet and muddy. The damage is hard to repair.
This picture one of our club members posted on facebook a few days ago shows the damage that will come from only a few rides in the wrong conditions.
Quote of his post on facebook.
"And this is why we don't ride the trail when it's wet/muddy. If you're going to ride, ride when it's frozen (like I did today) or when it's dry. If you're leaving ruts that means you should get off of the trail as soon as possible (like I did on Sunday) because it damages the trail. There are so many places on the trail that look like this it's unacceptable."
We appreciate everyone helping us keep the trails in good condition.
