Visiting Akron end of September - looking for some local input
Cross posted on ohiosingletracks.com forum:
Grew up in Copley but was never into mountain biking while I lived there. Moved to Austin and caught the bug. Going back to visit my folks and I have 3-5 days to ride; looking for some local input on a few questions.
1. Are there any bike shops that rent decent bikes? I've called Eddy's, Marty's, Century, Edge . . . either they don't offer anything or what they offer is not interesting to me (re: cheap hard tail). I can ship a bike but that is always a huge hassle.
2. Mohican and Vulture's Knob look to be the most advanced trails so I am definitely going to hit them. Probably also Reagan since its so close to where I'll be staying. Any other intermediate/advanced trails I should consider?
3. Anyone down to ride the week of Sep 30th?
As for intermediate/advanced trails you might find a trip to West Branch worth your while. The gorge side trails (south of Cable Line Road) are the more technical stuff, with Rock Wall Trail and Bit O Honey being the toughest. The newer trail - Quarry Trail, that's separate from the rest of the singletrack, over on Porter Road, is also fairly advanced with some nice rock features.
Enjoy. Hope it stops raining every other day by then.
