traveling from omaha to chicago, what trails to hit?

Heading to aurora, il in a couple weeks for work and am taking the bike along. Any recommendations for trails to hit off i80 in iowa? Also looking for areas to ride while in aurora.

    Thanks!

Check out CAMBr - Chicago Area Mountain Bikers for Chicago area trails. Right now we keep getting hit with deluge after deluge, and most of the local trails take a while to dry. Cambr do a great job of keeping the trail conditions updated on their site, though, so that will help you.

Don't know about Iowa trails, I've always just driven through...

Saw Wee Kee park is going to be your best bet from Aurora.

Ride fast, the bugs are bad right now.

Palos Hills has the best trails. Saw Wee Kee is fun and close to Aurora. As mentioned above, check out cambr.org (it's like Chicago's THOR). To compare to what you may be used to, Palos is like a FAR better Tranquility with more routes, more techy, and you can cover more miles. Saw Wee Kee is like the short roller coaster trails that Lewis and Clark offers.

Man there is a bunch of trails along ur route. Just off the top of my head is sugar bottom in Iowa city, then the quad cities has sunderbruch, illiniwek, and Scott county. Check out qcforc website for the ones in the quad cities status is always up to date.

If you want to get a ride in while driving through Iowa, just north of I-80/ Iowa City is Sugar Bottom trail system. It is a very fun, well maintained trail system that is well worth the time.

how is Ida Grove? Got a race coming up there next month and never been. Waffling between that and Sugar Bottom. Thinking 1 day in Palos and 1 day at Saw while in town and try to get out early enough to ride something on the way home. Thanks for the info!

Sunderbruch and Illiniwek are absolutely NO FUN AT ALL...nothing but flat, straight tripletrack with no jumps, drops, dirt berms, or wood berms.

...all kidding aside, I may be partial to the FORC trails because they are so close to home, but Sunderbruch and Illiniwek are my favorites in that stretch of land.
