    Kansas City trails?

I was offered a job in KC but really don't know what there is to do out there. I'm from Florida and love biking and water. I feel like it's a desert. Is there any terrain?

Lots of stuff, and it's growing. The following link is a pretty active local forum. Do a youtube search for the following (followed by "mountain biking" or "kansas city") for an idea of what's available.

    Swope Park
    BURP
    Shawnee Mission Park
    WYCO
    Wyandotte County Lake
    Smithville
    Landhall

    Kansas City trails?

Lived in the KC area most of my life... but unfortunately didn't get into MTB until 2 years ago. The trails Watts listed are all fun and varied tracks. I'll add a couple more located in Lawrence, just outside the KC metro but still within easy driving range: Lawrence River Trail and Clinton Lake trails. Also within an hour's drive West of the metro is Perry Lake trails. Obviously no lift- type downhill trails around here, but great variety of tracks to ride. Since you're coming from Florida, the lack of big hills/climbs may not be a big deal for you though. As I said, I lived here most my life and never would've guessed KC could have so many miles of good riding within easy driving distance. Plus the trail builders and local groups do a great job of building, maintenance and advocacy.

And for more downhill style riding relatively close by, there's always the Missouri/Arkansas Ozark area to visit.

KC has some of the best trails this side of the rockies! Be not afraid! Landahl and BRP are two of my all time favorites.
Grit, spit, and a whole lot of duct tape!

We have biking and water - not as much water as the ocean but there are lakes and rivers for fishing, boating, and swimming - KC is graced with over 100 miles of singletrack in various places around the metro along with a top notch trail crew keeping all that trimmed and ready to rock.

Check out the Earthriders website - Earthriders Mountain Bike Club - for all the lowdown on trails and stuff - sign up on the forum and get to know the folks - group rides are listed on the forums, trail work days are listed, trail conditions.. anything you need to know right there.

Also, we are 3 hours from Arkansas where lot of us migrate to in the winter months and times during the year for some huge climbing and descending action...definitely a huge plus for our area.

You will enjoy the scene up here.
I don't use Strava. Don't need an application to tell me I am slow because I already know.

I'm from Kansas City. I wish I had been into mountain biking when I was still in KC. I had to move to Korea I guess to get into the sport. If I'm back someday I hope I can hit up some of these trails.

I lived in KC for 10 years and loved it - primarily for the MTB scene. Here's an article I wrote for Dirtrag about it. Moved back to Chicago about 3 years ago and miss it dearly.
