    Chicago urban ride

I'm thinking about going on an urban ride through Chicago with my MTB this weekend.
    I've got some questions though:

Where would be a good place to park and start?

Where are areas i should avoid riding through?

What would be some interesting routes to take?

How about bike paths in the city?

Can i take my bike on the L?

Where would be a not so expensive place to crash in the area?

I've rode up to 60 miles a day no problem. My knees kinda got stressed out a couple of weeks ago at brown county so i have been taking it easy but i did 18 miles Tuesday just fine so I can at least do 20 but i would probably want to do 30-40.

I have been to Chicago and used the L before so I am kinda familiar with it.

I an not sure where you are coming from but if it's the south, I would park near Grant park and follow the trails north along the lake.

A good place to park would be on Lake street, around (I think) Halsted. There are no meters there.

BTW, bring rain gear, since it's supposed to rain.

    Boo rain...

This is going to be more urban exploration...definitely going to be riding all over inside the loop, hope to hit up Revolution Brewery too Was also interested in rolling up through the northside along the lake or something.

Not sure of your familiarity with the city, but here are some areas to hit:

West Loop - Halsted & Monroe
Wicker Park - Milwaukee & North Ave.
The Gold Coast - Rush & Division
Lincoln Park - Clark St. (from Fullerton to Belmont)
Edgewater - Broadway & Bryn Mawr
Roscoe Village - Roscoe & Western
    Lincoln Square - Lincoln/Western & Lawrence

If you park down by 31st St. and ride north on the Lakefront Path, that's about 15+ miles all the way to the end at Ardmore. Then, you'll be about 5 mins away from Moody's Pub, which has some pretty good burgers!

    Safe travels...

Oh yeah, maybe this will come in handy:

I did a Four Star Bike Tour last weekend

    Home | fourstarbiketour.org

The 35 miler on my single speed roadie. I don't know if they're done for the year, but it was a lot of fun if a little wet at the end because of the wonderful Mid-West weather!

Saw as many mtbs as I did road bikes. and it's a good way to see some of the city.

Or you could just head for the Lake and go either north or south. There's about 30 miles of bike lanes right along the Lake!

Awesome guys. I had to bail on this weekend due to my knee being a lil stressed Friday...so I figure I would relax this weekend.

I am planning on next weekend and I even have a friend to go with me which is cool. And I have more time to plan as well as hoping for better weather. Labor day weekend doesn't seem like the best time to travel anyways.

I will be staying the night somewhere....just have to figure out where. I have stayed at the Sheraton inside the loop before which was dope, but looking to make this trip as cheap as possible.....**** it I might stay there anyways just because the location is so dope! Lol

Made it out this weekend, got a good 40 miles in total and had a blast. Can't wait to come back next spring/summer. Found some parking at Wabash/9th for 10 dollars a day, woot woot.

I ended up going with some friends and doing a Critical Mass in Chicago at the end of June. Had a blast. We made a stop at Revolution Brewing and got some pictures at Wrigley Field before the Critical Mass. My GPS didn't do too well in the Loop with the tall buildings but worked pretty well once we got out of there.

Capped the day off with some beers at the Lakefront.

Awesome. Yea my GPS struggled inside the loop as well. This city is really cyclist friendly! We stopped in at Revolution Brewery, ate and drank beer (love the Anti-Hero). On day two we ate and drank at Miller's Pub on Wabash, cool looking place, great food and great beer selection!

Can't wait for another ride next Spring/Summer!
