    trail on private property?

well, i found some neat little trails (really flat, maybe a mile loop...sand/gravel singletrack). it aint' much, but it's handy. thing is, i gotta drive through a condo's around a gravel pit pond, which i know used to be privately owned...but a LOT of the old land has been sold off; most of it was developed into residential, a big chunk was made into a park, and the rest of it (where the trails are) is just there. my question is, how can i find out who owns it?
I ride a 26'er with tubes and rim brakes.
Yeah, I'm basically living in the stone age.

A plat book would help. Any realtor ought to have one. Also try your township clerk. If you can pinpoint the property on a map, it should be easy enough for the township to tell you who owns it.
